Yo tengo sangre Americana
The Bacilos song "Sangre Americana" talks about the strong ties that the singer has to his American roots. He states that he has "sangre Americana," a blood that runs through his veins and connects him to a past that predates the modern notion of a country divided by borders, flags, and false pretenses. He talks about the reality of his heritage, which is not seen in the media, in telenovelas or any form of advertisement.
The song highlights the struggles and sufferings of the soldiers who died for this land and the indigenous people who continue to endure the ongoing oppression without much notice or recognition from the society who enjoy the privileges that these soldiers fought for. The singer talks about the irony of how in a society where some people are judged by the place of birth or the color of their skin, and where status is determined by how much money a person makes or the kind of designer clothes one wears, his American roots run deep within him, and he has to constantly remind himself of his heritage.
In conclusion, "Sangre Americana" is a deep and thought-provoking song that highlights the struggles and oppression that are often overlooked in the pursuit of national pride and identity. The song and its lyrics encourage critical thinking, self-awareness, and an appreciation of the beauty of raw and authentic heritage that exist within us.
