Master of Reality is the third album by the British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released in 1971. It is sometimes noted as the first stoner rock album. Master of Reality was certified double platinum after having sold over 2 million copies. The slow and heavy songs that compose most of the album are interspersed with quiet ballads written by Tony Iommi. Two of these, "Embryo" and "Orchid", are short instrumentals serving as interludes. The third, "Solitude", is much longer in comparison and features Ozzy Osbourne's soft, woeful vocals. Unusually, the lyrics of the song "After Forever" written by Terry "Geezer" Butler , focus entirely on Christian themes. At the time, some viewed Black Sabbath as Satanists due to their dark sound, image and lyrics. Similarly, the song "Lord of this World" has lyrics that deal with Satan mocking those who unwittingly follow him. It was released as a single along with "Fairies Wear Boots" in 1971."
The song "Solitude" showcases Tony Iommi's multi-instrumental talents, featuring him playing the guitar, flute and piano.
The album opener, "Sweet Leaf", is a song about cannabis. "Children of the Grave" was written about war, peace and revolution.

Sweet Leaf
Black Sabbath Lyrics
Alright now
Won't you listen?
When I first met you, didn't realize
I can't forget you, for your surprise
You introduced me, to my mind
And left me wanting, you and your kind, oh yeah
I love you, oh you know it
My life was empty, forever on a down
Until you took me, showed me around
My life is free now, my life is clear
I love you sweet leaf, though you can't hear, oh yeah
Come on now, try it out
Straight people don't know, what you're about
They put you down and shut you out
You gave to me a new belief
And soon the world will love you sweet leaf, oh yeah baby
Come on now, oh yeah
Try me out baby, alright, oh yeah
I want you part of this sweet leaf, oh yeah
Alright, yeah, yeah, yeah, oh try me out
I love you sweet leaf, oh

If you don't like Sabbath, then you are not master of your reality.

That's why we must show the world that Sabb's alive, we must be brave!

Imagine: a 17 year old hearing this for the first time with headphones, long hair, a loner, slightly disturbed, on a do nothing Thursday. It was great. Led Zep finally had some company.

Led Zep is great. They aren't heavy. Never were. Nobody had been. Ever. You know why?
Black Sabbath INVENTED heavy metal. That's why I love the album cover. It's pretty simple, but it sure as hell makes a statement: That's your reality. Put that "Sweet Leaf" in your pipe and smoke it.

That was exactly me. It was early 2018. I was in school where I used a chrome book a d the teachers let us listen to music on them. I go on pandora and type “doom metal radio” an after Electric Wizard - Doom mantia, this song came on. I feel in love instantly. I didn’t smoke weed anymore at the time but I started back up not long after and yea I’ve smoked to this a goof bit.
