I Changed The Rules
Peter Cincotti Lyrics

I'm not some guy you discipline
Stop that crying
No use justifying
Baby, I changed the rules.
Don't keep me waiting at the door
I'm not some cat that you ignore
Keep on whining, and I'll keep on declining
Baby, I changed the rules.
You can't stop me from shooting the breeze
I always say and do as I please
But don't stop trying
You know I'm gratifying
Keep the pace
You're in the race
You feel the heat right by my side
Stay close, I'll take you for a ride
Stimulating
Really intoxicating
Baby, I changed the rules
You can't stop me from shooting the breeze
I always say and do as I please
But don't stop trying
You know I'm gratifying
Keep the pace
You're in the race
You feel the heat right by my side
Stay close, I'll take you for a ride
Stimulating
Really intoxicating
Baby, I changed the rules
I changed the rules
I changed the rules
The lyrics of Peter Cincotti’s song “I Changed the Rules” are about a man who is no longer willing to conform to societal expectations or allow himself to be controlled by a woman. The tone of the song is confident and assertive, as the man resists being disciplined or ignored by his partner. He declares that he has changed the rules and will no longer allow himself to be confined by traditional masculine roles, but will instead behave as he pleases.
The lyrics also suggest a sexual relationship between the singer and his partner. He describes himself as “stimulating” and “intoxicating,” and invites his partner to come along for the ride. Although he portrays himself as independent and unyielding, he also hints that he and his partner are in a race together, and encourages her to keep up with him. Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of rebellion and freedom, as the singer refuses to be held back by convention or by anyone else’s expectations.
