In interviews, Andy Partridge has often said that the Rundgren was difficult to work with and that he disagreed with Rundgren's choices during the recording -- but upon reflection is very happy with the way the album turned out.

This album has a very "Beatlesque" feel to it. Often cited as XTC's best album.

Initially released with "Mermaid Smiled" in the UK, but then new pressings had "Dear God" added after it became a minor hit on alternative charts

Despite all that in November 22, 2010 Ape Records re-issued Skylarking on remastered 45RPM vinyl covered in the original artwork and –supposedly– correct track-order.
