Black Snake Moan
Blind Lemon Jefferson Lyrics

I, I ain't got no mama now
I, I ain't got no mama now
She told me late last night, "You don't need no mama no how"
Mmm, mmm, black snake crawlin' in my room
Mmm, mmm, black snake crawlin' in my room
Some pretty mama better come and get this black snake soon
Ohh-oh, that must have been a bed bug, baby a chinch

Can't bite that hard
Ohh-oh, that must have been a bed bug, honey a chinch
can't bite that hard
Ask my sugar for fifty cents, she said "Lemon, ain't a
child in the yard"
Mama, that's all right, mama that's all right for you
Mama, that's all right, mama that's all right for you

Mama, that's all right, most seen all you do
Mmm, mmm, what's the matter now?
Mmm, mmm, honey what's the matter now?
Sugar, what's the matter, don't like no black snake no how
Mmm, mmm, wonder where my black snake gone?
Mmm, mmm, wonder where this black snake gone?
Black snake mama done run my darlin' home

I ain't got no mama now
I ain't got no mama now
She told me late last night
"You don't need no mama, no how"
Mmm, black snake crawlin' in my room
Mmm, black snake crawlin' in my room
And some pretty mama had better come
And get this black snake soon
Oh, that must been the bed bug
You know a chinch can't bite that hard
Oh, that must been the bed bug
You know a chinch can't bite that hard
Asked my baby for fifty cents
She said, "Lemon, ain't a child in the yard"
Mama, that's all right
Mama, that's all right for you
Mama, that's all right
Mama, that's all right for you
Say, baby, that's all right
Most seen all way you do
Mmm, what's the matter now?
Mmm, honey, what's the matter now?
Tell me what's the matter, baby?
I don't like no black snake, no how
Well, wonder where this black snake gone?
Well, wonder where this black snake gone?
Lord, that black snake mama
Done run my darlin' home

old bladder Horn

chris t the intro is a double stop run then blind lemon
plays/strums an A shape chord from a capo'd 2nd fret on all the verses so what's so hard about that' and all the breaks are pretty easy
all the turn rounds are quite easy to figure as well, as there's no singing.
lad you must be going senile if you can't work it out, it's only the
blues after all. And there's only one part were Mr Jefferson improv's
off the blues scale and that's not even one bar long, a passing phrase
only used once then back to the trusty A chord then turn round snippet's leads to the outro's, an echo of the intro
I put it down to you not being able to hear it. and the big part due
to the formidable voice of blind lemon scaring you off the basic tune.
His very precise clear vocal is the hardest part not his guitar playing
learning the vocal part inflections is the trick to this tune. any tune.

In the opening riff, you can hear the roots of "Johnny B, Goode"...

The open sounds like a frog hopping.

@Jackcrem Cone The concept of "time" that's based on 'numbers' is a man-made creation, my friend. In other words, it doesn't really exist.

true this is the birth of rock and roll

I believe a lot of the "Thumbs Down" here, are from people who judge this music by "today's" standards. When this music was played at its time, it was considered thought provoking and (almost) controversial. I always try to send myself back to those simpler, quieter times to appreciate this wonderful music that much more.

@Chris WallaceI agrre with your comment, BUT... not much to choose from.......? bluegrass, country, jazz, gospel, Broadway's Tin Pan Alley, Appalachian "mountain" music, etc.......I'm afraid you have a modern bias

Nah - they're just morons.
