Butch Walker Lyrics

You say goodnight, in my mind
I'm sleeping next to you.
You drive away
From my car crash of a heart,
And I don't know
But you gave me the best mix tape I have
Even all the bad songs ain't so bad
I just wish there was so much more than that,
About me and you
You talk to him, and it burns me like the sun
You talk to her, and you say that you feel like
he's the one
I talk to me, but you can't hear the pain I feel, you don't know
'Cause you gave me the best mix tape I have
Even all the sad songs ain't so sad
I only wish that there was more than that,
about me and you
Don't turn around and say goodbye again
Yeah it crushes my head when you call me your friend
And I'm not the same person from back in the day
In the back of the class that you thought was gay
No I can't find the words 'cause I lost them the minute the fell out my mouth
Yea it's love and I'm in it
So give me your lips and just let me kiss them
And let's get messed up and listen to probably
The best mix tape I have
Even all the bad songs ain't so bad
I just wish there was so much more than that, about me and you
In Butch Walker's song Mixtape, the lyrics express the feelings of unrequited love and longing for a past relationship. The narrator is unable to express their love to the person they desire and can only do so through their inner dialogue. The mixtape mentioned throughout the song is a symbolic representation of the relationship, encompassing both the good and the bad times. It's a reminder of the time they spent together and the emotions they shared, even if it has come to an end.
The opening line, "you say hello, inside I'm screaming I love you" immediately sets the tone of the song. The narrator is anxious about their feelings and unable to express them openly. They continue to portray this internal struggle throughout the song, with lines like "I talk to me, but you can't hear the pain I feel" and "Don't turn around and say goodbye again, yeah it crushes my head when you call me your friend." The narrator craves intimacy and connection, but is unable to attain it with the person they want.
The final verse is a plea for the person they love to see them in a new light, to see how they have changed since they were in school together. It's an invitation to be vulnerable, to let go of their fears and insecurities, and to be open to the possibility of love. The mixtape serves as a symbol and a reminder of their past relationship, but also as a hopeful message that there could be a future together.
