Constant Craving
k.d. lang Lyrics

Even through the darkest phase
Be it thick or thin
Always someone marches brave
Here beneath my skin

And constant craving
Has always been

Maybe a great magnet pulls
All souls towards truth
Or maybe it is life itself
That feeds wisdom
To its youth

Constant craving
Has always been

Craving
Ah ha
Constant craving
Has always been
Has always been

Constant craving
Has always been
Constant craving
Has always been

Craving
Ah ha
Constant craving
Has always been
Has always been
Has always been
Has always been
Has always been
Has always been

“Constant Craving,” was written by k.d. lang and was her most commercially successful single. A song about the struggles of life and the resiliency of the human spirit, “Constant Craving” is a great example of how a lot can be said with a concise lyric, and is notable for its short verses:

"Even through the darkest phase
Be it thick or thin
Always someone marches brave
Here beneath my skin"

and

"Maybe a great magnet pulls
All souls towards truth
Or maybe it is life itself
That feeds wisdom to its youth"

And that’s it. That’s both verses of the song. While the premise isn’t entirely unique, the lyrics of “Constant Craving” illustrate that, when the right words are used, less really is more, or is at least just the right amount.

And then there’s the chorus, which is only five words:
"Constant craving
Has always been."

Of course, the melody and lang’s delivery, with the syllables drawn out, determine how many beats the words take up within a measure. The song is so expertly written that the few words of the chorus fit perfectly, and say exactly what needs to be said.
’Constant Craving,’ as a matter of fact, wasn’t finished until a week before we actually finished the Ingénue album,” lang said. “I wasn’t happy. I was fighting with the structure of the song right up to the last minute and finally I decided to take a verse out and put a guitar solo in … It was a real tough tooth to pull, that one. It was really hard.”

Of crafting the song’s lyrics, lang says, “See, I struggle with tiny little words like ‘here beneath my skin’ or ‘just beneath my skin.’ Every little word. I take hours sometimes on one word.”

“Constant Craving” is outstanding work, and shows just how great a song can turn out to be when painstaking consideration is given to every word.

I know this song....
I mean, these lyrics really hit home for a socially awkward teen, who didn't know how to make connections all through school.
I'd just develope one crush after another, never making a true connection with anyone.
So this has a certain, nostalgia to it,
for myself, and I'm sure, other wayward souls like me.
Always wanting, what seemed out of reach.
😌 So liking this tune.
Leave it to the LGBT community to produce such a haunting lyric, as this.🤔💭😍🧠💪
I not sure if it's irony or what, but I was just watching a recently downloaded video about the CW TV series called Supernatural, my favorite fantasy/fiction show, it was titled, "Wayward Winchester's".
And though I've used that descriptive term before, I've not used it to express how I feel, til I posted the previous comment about this "Haunting" Jam.
Pun not intended, but might also be, yet another bit of irony?
🤔❓❓❓❓❓❓
Often wondered how those two aspects intertwined, one done sometimes unintentionally, while the other is solely based on being unintentional, " well isn't that ironic"?
And in case whoever may read this is also a fan of the song, yes I am too.
Shout out to Alanis.

It’s a shame they don’t make videos like this anymore. Remember when you could put VH1 on and listen to this and so many other fantastic songs in the 80’s??

I remember so long ago when videos were actually works of art and had deep meaning. Now, it's all straight forward crap that doesn't have you thinking at all.

@Jerry Jaquinto that's another art that died with music last decade and a half sadly, crap music, crap unimaginative videos.

Music videos got to be more elaborate and to costly to music companies that they became a disposable marketing vehicle. Plus it became labeled by pro directors as the worst project for an inspiring director to be hired to do. It was hard to find directors and creative film crew to make music vids. Many musicians hate doing them, it’s another workload to add to their schedule and most of the time they complain the videos doesn’t coincide with their music lyrics. Just a shame, music video done right offer amazing photography telling to a short story without dialog.

Yup, music died for good somewhere around 2005, now it's all some junkie zombie imaginary language stupid mumbling. No soul, no creativity, no nothing.
