Almost 60 years ago, this masterpiece of a song was created and was just considered a mere piano piece for a cartoon special. Today in 2021, this song is just as iconic as it was back when the Charlie Brown specials were first being made. Most people you ask would probably know this theme, and it’s probably the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Charlie Brown. This is one great theme indeed
@douglasgay4497
Amen. Vince was a genius.!
@cooldebt
It's great that there is more recognition of cartoon music (including eg. Charles Cornell analysis of various cartoon themes/music) because there is some really good stuff out there which almost goes unnoticed. Similarly, I never relaised until I heard jazz cover by The Consouls that vgm is actually so good. The best thing is that this great music is being absorbed by children/youth and hopefully will encourage a higher level of musicianship in pop music which has been in a bit of a slump for a couple of decades now.

One of my precious childhood memories was watching Peanuts cartoons and listening to the wonderful music of Vince Guaraldi. As a kid I really didn't know what Jazz was, I just liked the songs that were on the cartoons. Now as an adult I of course have Vince Guaraldi in my music library. When I was younger I was a Rock N' Roll snob and wouldn't even consider listening to Jazz. I had forgotten that Jazz was in my brain since a little kid thanks to Peanuts. Now that I'm older and wiser I can appreciate all music. If it touches your soul who cares about labels? Linus and Lucy was the gateway drug that opened my ears and blew my mind wide open to how cool Jazz is. As a fab 50 year old I still watch the Peanuts holiday specials and let Vince Guaraldi's precious music take me to a happy place.

@BTBHSOHBOY
One thing I love about this masterpiece: it's raw. Listen for the little flub at 0:50. Instead of cutting and re-recording, Guaraldi just played through. We don't get to hear that very often these days.
@OnlyEdandTheAlmost
"Instead of cutting and re-recording, Guaraldi just played through." Of course he did. But the decision to leave that "little flub" in the final published recording was solely that of the producer, who decided that this live take -- flaws and all -- was good enough. It would have been simple enough to splice in a few bars from another take to cover the mistake, had the budget permitted it. Evidently this take of that particular section of the composition was the best they had, and they went with it, warts and all. That's not to say that the other sections of the final recording were not from other takes. Who knows? A skilled engineer can make several takes seem like one.
@BTBHSOHBOY
***** You misunderstand. I'm not complaining. I like the flub, as I feel it lends humanity to the piece. Or were you addressing "Only Ed and the Almost"? Also, I am very experienced with picking up errors in recordings. I'm a classical composition major, so I listen to everything with a somewhat over-analytical ear. The truth is, in this day and age, there is so much looping and editing of tracks that those little mistakes that "humanize" music get lost. It's still there in classical recordings, but mainstream music has lost its humanity in a lot of ways.
@BTBHSOHBOY
***** Couldn't agree more. Where are you planning to study?
@OnlyEdandTheAlmost
***** For the record, and as a longtime Vince Guaraldi fan, I noticed the "flub" in this particular recording of Linus and Lucy the very first time I heard it. And you know what? It didn't bother me a bit. As a pianist with maybe 1/100th the talent of Vince Guaraldi, I know that mistakes happen. And as a recording and mixing engineer I know firsthand that, in a production environment, choices must be made. I wouldn't call this particular published version of Linus and Lucy a "masterpiece" because it has uncorrected mistakes. It's just a great composition, regardless of any particular recorded (and edited) performance.
@GloriaDcolumnist
The flub almost sounds like an unintentional slip note.

I’m actually glad the dislike button is gone because now no one can dislike this masterpiece
@jasonhurd4379
I just checked, and the dislike button is alive and well on my YouTube. Maybe that's one of the 'perks' that comes with being a YouTube Premium member...🤔
@williamleewolverine
@@jasonhurd4379 well, I don’t pay for premium but glad that it’s still there
@rockwilder0
@@jasonhurd4379 i pay for premium, it's gone for me, now it just sends feedback to the user.
@rumblebird9888
Well there some way to see dislikes by downloading an extension
@uncaboat2399
No no, what they did was leave the button but they no longer give you the statistics. So if you dislike something, you can tell the owner of the video without sending a message out to the general public.

This synonymous with Peanuts and Christmas to me. Thank you for this.
@raywalton2294
This may be THE most recognizable song ever recorded. And like a lot of comments below indicate, Christmas just isn't Christmas without this song. It always marked the beginning of what used to be "the Christmas Season", early in December. And the day I can watch this without crying at the ending is the day I'm no longer alive.
@speedo5376
The Peanuts Movie 2015 was one of the most magical movies just because of this song in the intro.
@vinpie
And that song was 'Skating'
@speedo5376
Well, you can't blame me. I got to the theater about 5 minutes into the movie.
@vinpie
+DatBlooper99 same ;-;
@knightwing5169
I don't see how you could make a Peanuts Movie WITHOUT using this song at this point.
@speedo5376
Especially the original.

If a song created for a Christmas special can be applied to any other time of the year, you know you’ve got something truly beautiful.
@ross3899
This song reminds me of the last minute hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, decorating our home, putting up the outdoor lights on the pines, preparations for a great dinner, waiting for the snow to fly....from Minnesota best wishes to all
@12groney
It never gets old. Classic .
@StringedGuitar17
I'm making listening to this a Christmas tradition, starting today

The year I was cast as Snoopy in "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown," my friend found this record - it was on vinyl - and she would play it whenever I went over to her house. She said Snoopy had to have entrance music. We would dance around the room like fools and end up laughing and out of breath while her older sister shook her head at our childishness and her mom yelled, "Don't skip the record!" LOL... shout out to CJ and those good times!
@unguja64
Great story! We should always remember to be 'childish'!

Sounds like a cool friend to have had.

Such a reminder of the innocence and magic of youth.....wish I could jump through a time warp and return.

Such an iconic song. Brings back a lot of happy memories from my childhood.
@frehleyscomet8812
The first thing my daughter always tells her friends when they come over, "if you ask, my mom will play the Charlie Brown song on the keyboard for you" 😂🙄
@davidbrick1260
How cute!! I wish we could live in a simpler time were interaction between kids were completely physical and not this mess the year 2016 served us.
@frehleyscomet8812
David Brick I can only hope that I can protect and raise my children in a way, they will have morals beyond the modern insanity were currently in.

C M my Granddaughter hasn't heard this yet. Yet I know she'll love it. Her big thing right now is Stevie Wonder.

C M, have you made a video of you playing it?

I love how this basically became the theme song for the entire franchise.
