The Dreamer
The Tallest Man on Earth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm just a dreamer but I'm hanging on
Though I am nothing big to offer
I watch the birds, how they dive in then gone
It's like nothing in this world's ever still

And I'm just a shadow of your thoughts in me
But sun is setting, shadows growing
A long cast figure will turn into night
It's like nothing in this world ever sleeps

Oh sometimes the blues is just a passing bird
And why can't that always be
Tossing aside from your birches crown
Just enough dark to see
How you're the light over me

And by your side, girl, where the acres grow
Into the strong and stunning meadow
A cowboy stumbling in the finest field
And nothing good out there won't be old

Oh sometimes the blues is just a passing bird
And why can't that always be
Tossing aside from your birches crown
Just enough dark to see
How you're the light over me

Sometimes the blues is just a passing bird
And why can't that always be
Tossing aside from your birches crown
Just enough dark to see
How you're the light over me

Overall Meaning

The Tallest Man on Earth's song "The Dreamer" is a captivating and insightful look into the mind of a dreamer who is holding on to hope despite feeling like they have nothing to offer. The lyrics describe the dreamer watching the birds and how their movements symbolize the constant motion and change in the world around them. The dreamer also feels like a shadow of the person they long to be, and sees themselves as a small part of the larger universe that is always moving and changing.

The next part of the song transitions into a more positive outlook on life, with the dreamer expressing hope that the blues will pass like a bird flying by. The dreamer sees their partner as a guiding light, helping them to overcome the darkness and see the world in a more positive way. The lyrics "just enough dark to see / how you're the light over me" beautifully capture the idea that sometimes we need a little bit of darkness to appreciate the light.

Overall, "The Dreamer" is a song that speaks to the human experience of feeling small and insignificant, but also finding hope and light in the people and world around us. The dreamer may not have much to offer, but they hold onto hope and the belief that things can get better.

This track is ten years old and yet still, every so often, I have a strong urgency and need to hear it one more time.

This song will always be very personal for me as it brings me back to a time that I was very innocent. first listened to it with my brother/best friend. Even through we have been through hard times I hope that if you ever find this message you understand we will make it through any hard time. When I first listened to this song my best friend and I were in it together. then things turned out badly, he hurt himself and we had a divide in our friendship. We still talk and laugh almost 10 years later and we’re almost 30. If you ever stumble upon this comment Andy I love you to the moon and beyond and I’ll hopefully always be there for you. I know I don’t communicate well, but that doesn’t mean I’m not thinking of you or hoping your doing well. - Matt. Imagine going back to that night now, your mam in the morning after trying to find us through that fog in you room when we smoked all that Amber leaf, I’m sorry things turned out the way they did for you, and also myself selfishly. I hope things get better for us. To be honest you would probably try to reassure me and say it will, to be even more honest I will believe you.

Edit: We’ll lad I’ve tried writing this comment a good bit tonight and it kept getting messed up so sorry if it’s a bit hard to read. It’s currently Friday the 7/1/2022 2:26am
