For those of us who graduated from the class of 1965, St. George's School, Middletown, Rhode Island, we witnessed the birth of rock 'n roll in the '50s, and we were there for the British invasion and the emergence of the Motown sound in the mid '60s. We are part of the youth generation that will be forever linked with the tumultuous late '60s, when the music mirrored the social upheaval of that memorable, but polarizing historical period.
However, music has even more powerful qualities than that of a mere time machine. It is also a wonderful means of communication that can touch hearts and minds on a very deep level. Songs can express feelings of joy, angst, love, rejection, triumph, etc.. arguably better than the spoken word alone, can. And music probably comes the closest to providing the thread that weaves a most remarkable tapestry representing our individual and collective lives before, during, and after life at St. George's.
lastfm tag station sg65 is primarily composed of tracks from the '50s and '60s, but also contains songs from the '70s, '80s, '90s, and the new millennium that remind us of class mates still living, as well as those who no longer walk amongst us. It also contains music that speaks to the consequences of the choices we make in life, as well as the human experience of growing old, from the vantage point of those of us who became teenagers over fifty years ago.
Enjoy your listen, and please feel free to continue to build and refine this time machine and communication tool, so that we can give every listener the best experience possible
