Shyness
Thieves Like Us Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
bleeds about it
bleeds about it today
its hard but i know
that ill make it
to the kingdom one day
I was a fool yeahh
never thinking
of the choices I made
Shyness let it go
never have to be alone
shyness
never have to feel so lonely
shyness
under the moonlight
i was waiting
for an answer some way
i walked in shadows
was unfaithful
to the people who care
my heart
bleeds about her
bleeds about her
today
shyness
let it go
never have to be alone
shyness
let it go
never have to feel so lonely
shyness
The opening lines of Thieves Like Us's song "Shyness" speak of emotional pain and heartbreak, as expressed through the metaphorical image of a bleeding heart. However, the singer also expresses their resilience and determination to move on from this pain, with a belief that they will ultimately find a better place ("the kingdom") despite their past mistakes. The chorus of the song revolves around the theme of shyness, which is presented as a major obstacle to overcome in achieving this sense of belonging and connection with others. The repetition of the titular word "shyness" can be read as a mantra to let go of inhibitions and fears, to reach out to others and avoid the feeling of loneliness that has been plaguing the singer.
Throughout the song, the lyrics suggest a sense of regret and self-blame for past actions, particularly in regards to relationships with others. The line "I was a fool yeah, never thinking of the choices I made" reflects a certain degree of introspection and recognition of one's own responsibility for the hardships experienced. The imagery of "walking in shadows" and being "unfaithful to the people who care" hints at a history of betrayal or dishonesty, adding to the emotional complexity of the song's narrative.
Overall, "Shyness" can be seen as a deeply personal and introspective meditation on themes of heartbreak, regret, and self-improvement. The repetition of the word "shyness" throughout the chorus serves as a unifying thread, emphasizing the importance of overcoming personal inhibitions and opening oneself up to the potential for connection with others.

I was 18 when I used to listen to this band every day in college. I'm 26 now and so much has happened since then. This takes me back to better times. It's a shame the band fell apart after a while. I miss this old sound.

I'm from Italy and in my country this kind of music is very unknown. Many guys in my town think that I'm strange because I don't listen to italian rap or pop song like pitbull and other shit. I really love Thieves Like Us, when I listen only a song I dream in my magic world and I travel around my immagination. Italy needs more of this kind of music, it's so fantastic and amazing!

I used to LOVE this film when I was 13/14. Almost 10 years later and it honestly disturbs me. It’s weird how we swear we won’t forget how we were then, but you really can’t stop it happening.
