Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of 中山美穂's song スピード・ウェイ describe the thrill and danger of high-speed motorcycle racing. The singer, presumably on the back of her lover's silver bike, feels alive as they tear through the summer heat, holding onto the moment in fleeting bursts of speed. The curves make them tremble, and the engine's roar seems to tilt the world. It's a dangerous but enticing ride, something that perhaps only young people are drawn to. They're racing towards the horizon, barely able to hear each other through the wind, but there's an unspoken sense of devotion and attraction that keeps them holding on tightly.
The lyrics also express a desire to be like the wind, and to paint the scenery from the past to the future with speed. The singer is willing to burn her life away like a fireworks display, and even death wouldn't be something to regret if it happened on the speedway with her lover. It's a powerful love song that sets the scene with a dangerous backdrop, and the freedom of speed, which serves as a metaphor for the uninhibited passion between the two riders.
