Lyrics

Overall Meaning

The song is called わかれうた, which means "Farewell Song" in English. The song deals with the themes of separation and the feeling of loneliness that follows it. The lyrics start with asking if the listener has ever fallen on the way and continued to call someone's name. The singer goes on to say that the dusk is not gentle to people who are too nice. Then, the lyrics describe how the singer opened the door for someone who tasted the separation and knocked on the singer's door to forget it, but the singer cannot face that person and forget about the separation. The separation always follows and leaves the singer alone, and waking up alone has become a habit of the singer's. The person who left wears a sorrowful expression and becomes famous in the nearby town. The singer, who cannot sleep, sings the farewell song alone.

The lyrics mention the concept that the person who leaves is always beautiful when they leave, while the ones left behind feel confused and desperately seek the person. The singer mentions the habit of singing the farewell song every night, and not knowing who named the song. The final verse talks about the singer's town, where the streets are cut off by houses, and the singer cannot express their feelings to anyone while walking near the river. They see the flowers bloom, and the sound of the temple bells reminds them once again of the separation. At the edge of the bridge, the singer sees a flickering light that reminds the singer of the restlessness and awkwardness of the first love.
