Ohashi got her start in music when she joined a band while she was at Hokkaido University.
Inspired by such artists like Sergio Mendes & Brazil '66 and Janice Joplin, Ohashi hoped to add soulful singing to her music. She later became a DJ at a local radio station before having a part-time job at the Yamada Headquarters in Tokyo.
There, she auditioned for a chance to release music and won a record deal.
In 1974, Ohashi made her debut with the album Feeling Now and the single "Kagi wa Kaeshite". Her second album, Paper Moon, helped to gain Ohashi some popularity. But it wasn't till 1977 with the single "Simple Love" that Ohashi gained a smash hit. Throughout the late 70s and 80s, a couple of her singles also became big hits.
さよならが言えなくて
大橋純子 Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
These lyrics are from the song "さよならが言えなくて" (Sayonara ga ienakute) by 大橋純子 (Junko Ohashi). The song expresses the difficulty of saying goodbye and the longing for love.
The first verse talks about the twilight melting into the sea and the stars being born. This could symbolize the passing of time and the beauty that emerges from it. The line "Love you" suggests that the person singing the song has been waiting for those words from someone they care about. They spend their time simply looking at the seasons passing by, as if unable to move on without hearing those words.
The second verse reveals that the singer has dreams for the future hidden in their heart. They want to be by the side of the person they care about deeply. The line "Love me" signifies their strong desire for love. However, despite this longing, they can't see the love they desire in the eyes of the other person anymore.
The third verse implies that the singer has been lost in multiple loves, possibly experiencing confusion or heartbreak. Despite this, they still can't bring themselves to say "Say Good-bye" to the person they address in the song. They can't find the courage to let go and end the relationship.
The final line repeats the idea that they probably can't say goodbye and implies that they definitely can't say it. It reflects the difficulty and pain of bidding farewell to someone, even though it might be necessary for their own well-being.
Overall, these lyrics capture the struggle of not being able to say goodbye and the yearning for love, even when it becomes challenging or unrequited.
