His music being so eclectic, it is hard to label him. However, the influence of Serge Gainsbourg can be traced in the way he uses the structures of Anglo-Saxon pop and funk, but blends them with the French tradition of complex lyrical wordplay and an emphasis on storytelling.
He his known for his unique hairstyle in the shape of an M, and praised for his amazing guitar playing abilities , and his grandiose live performances à la David Bowie (documented in the live album Le Tour de -M-).
He is Louis Chédid's son. Some of his texts (among which Bonobo) have been written by the writer Andrée Chédid, who happens to be his grandmother.

L'âme au Mali
Pas temps de m'en nier
L'âme au Mali
C'est toi mon ami
L'âme au Mali (a si)
Pas temps de m'en nier
Tackle, tackle Illusion
I'm feeling in a deep confusion
Come on my walk at the nation
Follow my intuition
Stop and step around
See the beauty that's around
Stop and step around
Stop and look around
Titakapoum takati et tam
My head goes up in the clouds
Titakapoum takati et tam
My heart follows the rythm down
Stop and sing some more to feel a little bit of love
Stop and sing for more
Stop and love for more (l'âme au Mali)
La, l'âme au Mali (c'est toi mon ami)
La, l'âme au Mali (l'âme au Mali)
