Ain't No Cure For Love
Aaron Neville Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I loved you for a long, long time
I know this love is real
It don't matter how it all went wrong
That don't change the way I feel
And I can't believe that time's
Gonna heal this wound I'm speaking of
There ain't no cure,
There ain't no cure,
There ain't no cure for love
I'm aching for you baby
I can't pretend I'm not
I need to see you naked
In your body and your thought
I've got you like a habit
And I'll never get enough
There ain't no cure,
There ain't no cure,
There ain't no cure for love

There ain't no cure for love
There ain't no cure for love
All the rocket ships are climbing through the sky
The holy books are open wide
The doctors working day and night
But they'll never ever find that cure for love
There ain't no drink no drug
(Ah tell them, angels)
There's nothing pure enough to be a cure for love

I see you in the subway and I see you on the bus
I see you lying down with me, I see you waking up
I see your hand, I see your hair
Your bracelets and your brush
And I call to you, I call to you
But I don't call soft enough
There ain't no cure,
There ain't no cure,
There ain't no cure for love

I walked into this empty church I had no place else to go
When the sweetest voice I ever heard, whispered to my soul
I don't need to be forgiven for loving you so much
It's written in the scriptures
It's written there in blood
I even heard the angels declare it from above
There ain't no cure,
There ain't no cure,
There ain't no cure for love

There ain't no cure for love
There ain't no cure for love
All the rocket ships are climbing through the sky
The holy books are open wide
The doctors working day and night

But they'll never ever find that cure,
That cure for love

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Aaron Neville's "Ain't No Cure For Love" portray a heartbroken narrator who is still in love with someone despite the painful history between them. He knows that the love is real and that no matter how things went wrong, his feelings for this person won't change. He acknowledges the healing power of time, yet feels that even with time the wound won't heal. Throughout the song, the singer reveals his deep desire and obsession for this person that makes him feel like he's addicted to them, unable to get enough. The chorus repeats the fact that there is no cure for love, no matter how hard society or science tries to offer a cure through drugs, drinks or books - this love cannot be treated or healed.

The song is full of imagery, with the singer painting a picture of his love interest in his mind, from seeing them on the bus to lying down with them. The most arresting image, however, comes towards the end when the singer finds himself in an empty church and hears a sweet voice speak to his soul. He is told that he doesn't need to be forgiven for loving this person so much, that it's written in the scriptures and that the angels declare it from above - reaffirming the idea that his love is unbreakable and unshakable.

Just as the lyrics of the song suggest, there are no hard and fast rules as to what the song means. It could be interpreted as a love song, but it could also be seen as a bittersweet lament about a love that just can't be forgotten. Regardless of the interpretation, the song remains a beautiful and haunting piece, with Neville's delivery adding to the raw emotional power of the overall experience.

I like to hear others do what Aaron does 1 mike 1 take see if they could do it as good as he does. His voice is so good. I can listen to his voice everyday all day long and never get tired of hearing his voice. His voice don't always sound the same. He can go high and low and every where in between. Just love him.

This guy has an incredible voice...this is my favorite version of this song. There's just so much raw emotion and soul in the way he sings, it takes my breath away. Also, steel pedal guitar FTW.
