Their signature is distortion, tight guitar-bass riff attacks and a Marshall-stacked, bloated low rear end. Ampeg bass amps and Osbourne's Ludwig drum kit supplemented the heaviness accordingly. Heavy but spacey. Lori's searing guitar leads contrasted nicely with her nefarious vocal stylings. People appreciated something different and distinctive, enthusiastically supporting Acid King's opening slots for the likes of the Obsessed, Sleep and Hawkwind.

The band's name was inspired by the book Say You Love Satan by David St. Claire. It is based on the crimes of Ricky Kasso (nicknamed 'The Acid King') who committed a murder in Northport, New York during 1984.

Current Acid King lineup consists of :

Lori S. - guitars, vocals;
Rafael Martinez - bass guitar (Black Cobra);
Joey Osbourne - drums (Altamont).

Former members :

Peter Lucas - bass guitar;
Dan Southwick - bass guitar (Altamont);
Brian Hill - bass guitar;
Guy Pinhas - bass guitar.

I saw these guys waaayy back when with High On Fire supporting their first, The Art of Self Defense. Before their set, Lori cut her hand picking up broken beer bottles from the floor, but she wrapped it up and went up and jammed anyway. High On Fire was SCARY fuckin LOUD back then! ha

@Jimbo Jones Hands down, Melvins are the LOUDEST band I saw back in the days when my friends and I saw numerous bands. The band I was drumming in got to open up for them in '90 or '91... Joes had just joined up and they were touring Bullhead and Eggnog 10". During If I Had an Exorcism they drove many people out of the bar they were that loud ...it was that mid-way part where it's just Buzz playing those high notes, and he was feuding with the sound guy (who didn't like them) and so he kept those high notes going for what seemed like an eternity, ha. The bar threatened to not pay them unless they turned down, so they finished their set playing at a free jazz whisper level, taking cover requests. Hysterical. Got to hear em play Diamonds & Rust for their soundcheck. They were really cool though.... during our set I didn't have a rug for my kit, and the kick kept sliding, so Joe and Dale came out and nailed a piece of 2x4 in front of it to keep it in place. Very decent of them! ha. I saw Melvins a handful of times beyond that and they were just as loud every time. Whoa... HOF I saw a few times after that Acid King show and - don't get me wrong, they're still killer - but they were never as insanely loud as that first time.

So Fkin loud and heavy, the only thing to ever top that was Black Sabbath, original lineup,, 1999 at an outdoor amphitheater right nextdoor to the airport and they were so fkin loud you couldnt even hear the planes that were RIGHT above you coming in to land

I love the sound and style but I cannot support any band that gives any power to Satanism, the Dark Arts, or the Pentagram so this is a pass for me. Being a Christian and being a stoner and fan of Stoner and Doom Metal can be difficult at times. I refuse to give any power to Satan/Lucifer, and I hope and pray these great musicians find the Light.
