Green attended Emerson College briefly in 1998 before leaving to concentrate on his music, going on to co-found the anti folk group The Moldy Peaches with Kimya Dawson. In 2004 The Moldy Peaches went on hiatus and both Green and Dawson embarked on solo careers.
Green released several albums on Rough Trade Records. Among his better known songs are "Jessica" (about singer Jessica Simpson), "Novotel", "Friends of Mine", "Dance with Me", "Carolina" and "Emily", and, in Britain, his cover of The Libertines track "What a Waster".
Prior to Jacket Full of Danger in 2006, all of Green's albums had been released on the 22nd of the month. His latest album was released on March 18, 2008 and is titled Sixes & Sevens. Titles include "Morning After Midnight", "Twee Twee Dee", and "Drowning Head First", the latter a duet between Green and his girlfriend.
In January 2008, The Moldy Peaches began having a resurgence in popularity, due to their music being included in the hit indie film Juno.
Hairy Women
Adam Green Lyrics

To hide out when I'm embarassed
So embarassed by injustice that shuts doors on hairy women
There's no place inside this romance
For a girl that's clearly balding
So embarassed by injustice that shuts doors on balding women
The bowls of bones that skulls descend
The shallow pools of lust
That drown our tallest women
Though this is a place of business
Where they pay with mumbo-jumbo
I have praise for every fantasy that braves a hairy nipple
We despise the narrow souls we found
That haunt us fifteen years from now
They just have no remorse
They shut their doors on women
I'm so embarassed
The lyrics of Adam Green's song "Hairy Women" deal with the themes of opposition to injustice and the objectification of women, specifically those who do not conform to societal beauty standards regarding hair. The song starts with the notion of a hairy woman who the singer is uncertain if he can trust her to hide out when he's embarrassed. This uncertainty highlights the shame and stigma surrounding nonconformity to beauty standards, as society often ridicules and ostracizes those who do not fit in.
The second verse suggests that there's no place for balding women in romance, which further emphasizes the importance society places on physical beauty. The lyrics go on to criticize the "narrow souls" who objectify and dehumanize women, turning them into mere objects of desire. This shallow perspective is contrasted with the "fantasy that braves a hairy nipple," which represents the bravery and courage of those who reject societal beauty standards and embrace their natural selves.
Finally, the song concludes with a sense of embarrassment for not speaking out against the injustice of shutting doors on women who do not fit into the narrow beauty standards imposed by society. Overall, Green's lyrics reflect a social commentary on the treatment of women who do not fit into conventional beauty ideals.
