Green attended Emerson College briefly in 1998 before leaving to concentrate on his music, going on to co-found the anti folk group The Moldy Peaches with Kimya Dawson. In 2004 The Moldy Peaches went on hiatus and both Green and Dawson embarked on solo careers.
Green released several albums on Rough Trade Records. Among his better known songs are "Jessica" (about singer Jessica Simpson), "Novotel", "Friends of Mine", "Dance with Me", "Carolina" and "Emily", and, in Britain, his cover of The Libertines track "What a Waster".
Prior to Jacket Full of Danger in 2006, all of Green's albums had been released on the 22nd of the month. His latest album was released on March 18, 2008 and is titled Sixes & Sevens. Titles include "Morning After Midnight", "Twee Twee Dee", and "Drowning Head First", the latter a duet between Green and his girlfriend.
In January 2008, The Moldy Peaches began having a resurgence in popularity, due to their music being included in the hit indie film Juno.
Hey Dude
Adam Green Lyrics

When the soda pop is dropping all the time
And the gravity is project behind a whore?
Listen up because your daddy is a bore
And who can fly a rocket to the moon
When the two of us be dropping our tune
And he slipped between the shadow of the day?
Hey dude
Do you wanna go the wrong way?
Heart-breakers in the Motown shakers
And the fakers in the town, baby
White women and they don't stop swimming
I got a finger in the town, baby
Hey, hey, hey
Bob Dylan was a vegetable's wife
Game over, hope you had a good life
Hey dude, hey dude
Sock it to me, baby
Do you wanna go the wrong way?
I'll take you for a ride
Watching now, I love you all the time
Careful what you do about the wild, wild women
And all the fingers in the town, baby
And all the fingers in the town
And all the fingers in the town
The lyrics of "Hey Dude" by Adam Green are characterized by an unconventional and playful style of language that leaves a lot of room for interpretation. The song seems to be a mixture of disconnected phrases that suggest various themes, ranging from an existential crisis ("How can I continue to survive/When the soda pop is dropping all the time") to a desire for rebellion and breaking the rules ("Do you wanna go the wrong way?"). The references to old-school music icons, such as Bob Dylan and Motown, adds a layer of meta-commentary to the lyrics, hinting at the absurdity of idolizing musical heroes who have long lost their relevance.
The imagery of "the gravity is project behind a whore" and "white women and they don't stop swimming" seems deliberately provocative and designed to elicit a reaction from the listener. At the same time, the chorus refrain of "Hey Dude" is a friendly and laid-back invitation, suggesting that the song is not meant to be taken too seriously. The final lines about "all the fingers in the town" and "sock it to me, baby" further emphasize the playful and tongue-in-cheek nature of the song. Overall, "Hey Dude" offers a glimpse into the mind of a young artist trying to navigate the complex landscape of modern music while still staying true to his own voice.
