Green attended Emerson College briefly in 1998 before leaving to concentrate on his music, going on to co-found the anti folk group The Moldy Peaches with Kimya Dawson. In 2004 The Moldy Peaches went on hiatus and both Green and Dawson embarked on solo careers.
Green released several albums on Rough Trade Records. Among his better known songs are "Jessica" (about singer Jessica Simpson), "Novotel", "Friends of Mine", "Dance with Me", "Carolina" and "Emily", and, in Britain, his cover of The Libertines track "What a Waster".
Prior to Jacket Full of Danger in 2006, all of Green's albums had been released on the 22nd of the month. His latest album was released on March 18, 2008 and is titled Sixes & Sevens. Titles include "Morning After Midnight", "Twee Twee Dee", and "Drowning Head First", the latter a duet between Green and his girlfriend.
In January 2008, The Moldy Peaches began having a resurgence in popularity, due to their music being included in the hit indie film Juno.
Party Line

Coming up the avenue
Here comes Mike and you look just like him
Up and down the avenue
Those guys stay up on the party line
They make you cry in every way that you can
Those guys have money for you anytime
Here comes Brady with his fifty dollar baby
Coming out the alleyway
And here comes Davey with his funny little lady
Wiping all her tears away
Those guys, they cause you to fantasize
They dish it out, they make you comply like a man
Those guys have money for you anytime
But you never make out with them
Making out with the funny little lady
What you gonna do right now?
Making love with a funny little woman
Don't you wanna take me down?
Those guys stay up on the party line
They make you cry in every way that you can
Those guys have money for you anytime
But you never make out with them
The song "Party Line" by Adam Green is essentially a commentary on the culture of hook-up and one-night stands. The main theme of the song revolves around how certain guys, who seem like they have everything going for them, are never the ones who end up making out with the girls. The opening line "Here comes Ted with his best friend Fred" sets the tone for the rest of the song. It describes how certain guys, who are seemingly cool and attractive, are always hanging around the local area waiting for girls to approach them.
The song then goes on to describe several instances of this kind of behavior. The guys in the song have the money, the looks, and everything else that should make them an attractive proposition, but the girls never end up with them. The lyric "Those guys have money for you anytime, but you never make out with them" is particularly poignant in that it highlights the superficiality of the relationships that these men are looking to have. The men described in this song are not interested in anything deep or meaningful, they only want to have the physical affection of women.
The final lines of the song "Making love with a funny little woman, don't you wanna take me down?" are somewhat ironic as it is the same guy who was never able to make out with a girl earlier in the song that is now looking for attention. This line is almost like a plea for the listener to understand him more. However, it's fair to say that taking the guy down is probably the last thing a woman wants to do with him.
