Heavily influenced by his idol, Elvis Presley, and the 1950s rock revolution, he is also known as the most famous dancer of the Hula hoop fad. For the last 40 years he has retained his popularity in Italy, selling millions of records and appearing in numerous TV shows and movies (including a short appearance in Fellini's La Dolce Vita, before becoming a famous artist). In the latter respect, he has also been a creator of a comic genre, with his characteristic walking and his facial expressions. For the most part, his films were commercially successful, in fact in the 1970s and part of the 1980s, he was the king of the Italian box office in low budget movies. As an actor, critics point to Serafino (1968), directed by Pietro Germi, as his best effort.
As a director he frequently casts Ornella Muti, Eleonora Giorgi and his wife Claudia Mori. His best movie like director is "Yuppi Du", winner of The Golden Palm at Cannes Festival. He and Claudia are the parents of Rosita, Rosalinda and Vincent Celentano, the latter most notable to worldwide audiences for playing the Satan character in Mel Gibson`s The Passion of the Christ. He also works often as a host for several Italian television shows.
His 1968 song "Azzurro" has regained popularity in 2006, due to it being the anthem of the Italian national football team (the Azzurri) who won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The artist Vincent Fiorello has also created a remix of the song.
His last concert-event in 2012, after 18 years without live performances, was transmitted on Canale 5, with over 9 million viewers both evenings.

Tra i motori e la realtà
Tanta gente che si muove
Sembra viva e non lo è più
Ehi amico che cammini
Non ti accorgi che anche tu
Tu sei fatto di bulloni
il motore guida te
L'ingranaggio gira ma
Proprio lui ti ucciderà
Amico mio
Non sono fatto come te
Guarda i miei occhi
Vedrai che differenza c'è
Ehi amico sta' a sentire
Non scappare, vieni qua
Se ti guardi un poco intorno
Anche tu ti accorgerai
Che i colori della vita
Non li vedi come me
Quando tu ti sveglierai
Da quel brutto sogno che
Ti distrugge e non lo sai
Che la vita è nei colori
Che ci sono intorno a te
Amico mio
Non sono fatto come te
Guarda i miei occhi
Vedrai che differenza c'è
Non aver paura, vivi
Lascia tutto ciò che hai
Devi cominciare a dare
Se amore tu vorrai
il mestiere della vita
Più leggero ti sarà
Se ad amare avrai imparato
La tua gente come te
Vieni amico, andiamo dai
Sarà facile per noi
Non sei solo, siamo in due
Amico mio
Non sono fatto come te
Guarda i miei occhi
Vedrai che differenza c'è
Amico mio
Non sono fatto come te
Guarda i miei occhi
Vedrai che differenza c'è
Amico mio
Non sono fatto come te
Guarda i miei occhi
Vedrai che differenza c'è
The lyrics of Adriano Celentano's song "Uomo" delve into themes of individuality, self-awareness, and the pursuit of a meaningful life amidst the monotony of modern society. The song opens with a depiction of bustling city life, where people move mechanically, seemingly alive but lacking true vitality. The singer observes his surroundings and realizes that everyone, including himself, is essentially 'made of bolts,' driven by the mechanical motions of life. This metaphor of being a machine highlights the idea that many individuals are merely going through the motions of life without truly living.
As the singer addresses his friend, he urges them to pay attention and not escape from their reality. He points out that even amidst the grey mundanity, there are vibrant colors of life that can only be seen with open eyes and a receptive heart. The call to wake up from a 'bad dream' symbolizes breaking free from the numbing routine and embracing the beauty and richness that life has to offer. By acknowledging the emotional depth and nuances of existence, one can unlock the true essence of living a fulfilling life.
The chorus emphasizes the contrast between the singer and his friend, highlighting their differing perspectives and approaches to life. The repeated assertion of "Non sono fatto come te" (I am not made like you) underscores the singer's unique outlook and his refusal to conform to societal norms or expectations. Through a direct plea to look into his eyes, the singer invites his friend to see the world from a different lens and appreciate the profound differences that make each individual unique and valuable.
In the final verses, the singer encourages his friend to embrace fearlessness, live authentically, and start giving back to others. The notion of learning to love and connecting with one's community is presented as a path towards a lighter and more meaningful existence. By emphasizing the power of love and empathy, the song suggests that true fulfillment comes from shared experiences, mutual support, and genuine human connections. The repeated refrain of "Amico mio, guarda i miei occhi" (My friend, look into my eyes) serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of seeing beyond surface appearances and understanding the deeper essence of a person. "Uomo" ultimately conveys a message of individuality, compassion, and the transformative potential of embracing one's unique identity and forming genuine connections with others.
