The lyrics of "Badi Der Se Megha Barsa" describe the longing of a woman waiting for the rain to come. The very first line, "Badi Der Se Megha Barsa Ho Rama," translates to “It has been a long time since it rained heavily.” The woman is waiting for the clouds to burst and the rains to come, as she has been sitting there for so long that her eyes have burned out. The song begins with the sound of a distant thunderstorm, which builds up as the woman sings about how many nights she has waited for the rain to come. The woman is portrayed as helpless and in despair as she waits for the rain to come.
The second verse suggests that the woman is experiencing a difficult time in her life, and the rains represent a release from her troubles. She can hardly keep her eyes open, and her heart is heavy as she waits for the rainfall. Yet she persists in her wait, like a devotee who patiently waits for the arrival of a deity. The final verse describes how the rain finally arrives, but only after a long delay, like a long meditation session that finally leads to enlightenment.
Overall, "Badi Der Se Megha Barsa" is a beautiful manifestation of the Romantic tradition where human emotions and nature are intertwined. The song is all about waiting for rains, which ultimately turns into a metaphor for the human experience of waiting for some sort of redemption or enlightenment.
