The song "Jai Sharde Vageshwari" by Asha Bhosle is a devotional song that pays tribute to the goddess Saraswati, who is believed to be the deity of music, art, and knowledge. The song is a celebration of the divine powers of Saraswati and the blessings she bestows on humanity. The lyrics of the song are in Marathi, which is a regional language spoken in the western part of India. The song starts with praising the deity, addressing her as Vageshwari, a name that signifies her association with music. The song goes on to describe the divine glow that emanates from her, which is like the light of the moon on a bright night. Her smile is also considered to be a source of divine inspiration and her blessings are said to bring forth the rain of knowledge that nourishes human minds.
The second stanza of the song pays homage to the Goddess's association with music. She is seen as a muse who inspires creativity and her presence is considered to be essential for any artistic endeavor. The lyrics describe how her fingers move skillfully over the strings of the Veena, an Indian musical instrument, creating enchanting melodies that captivate the mind and soul of the listener. Her music is seen as a means to connect with the divine, and it is believed that through her music, one can attain spiritual bliss. The song concludes with a repetition of the opening lines, emphasizing the importance of invoking Saraswati's blessings and celebrating her divine power.
