Aterciopelados, whose name translates as "The Velvety Ones," was formed by former members of Delia Y Los Aminoacidos -- Andrea Echeverri, who plays acoustic guitar and sings lead, and Héctor Buitrago, who plays bass guitar. The original drummer Andres Giraldo* was replaced by Alejandro Duque in 1995 and the original guitar player Charlie Marquez was replaced by Alejandro Gomez Caceras in 1997. Also, lead singer Andrea Echeverri was chosen by Gustavo Cerati to sing "En la Ciudad de la Furia" for Soda Stereo's MTV Unplugged album.
Andrés Giraldo was also part of the Bogotá based band Bloque de Busqueda, known for their mix of artisan / folkloric music with a modern twist full of prominent beats.
Echeverri came out with a self-titled solo album in 2004, "Aemeo" is the lead song in this album.
The band recieved Grammy award nominations in 1997 and 1998.
In October of 2006 they released the album Oye, just a couple of months after Héctor Buitrago came out with his Conhector first solo album.

Nacimos pintados
Con el odio why la guerra
En la piel tatuados
Fuego why motosierra
Me sacude el recuerdo
Vulnerable en la tierra
Enterraron lo bello
Somos hijos de tigre
Nacimos pintados
Con el odio why la guerra
En la piel tatuados
es la ley del más fuerte
Why el que no que reviente
Lo sagrado murió
El sufragio envienmelo
hermano tigre de la violencia seamos libres
Hermano gato yo te amo no te mato
hermano tigre de la violencia seamos libres
se escucha el rugido
Desafiante del bravo
Con sus ojos de fuego
Atacando a su hermano
somos hijos de tigre
Nacimos pintados
Con el odio why la guerra
En la piel tatiados
Why en el mejor de los casos
Nos portamos como animales
Nuestra beligerancia
Mutará en fuerza libertaria
hermano tigre
De la violencia seamos libres
Hermano gato yo te amo no te mato(bis)
Hermano tigre
Nacimos pintados
hermano tigre
The lyrics of Aterciopelados' song "Hijos de Tigre" are an evocative expression of the harsh realities of violence and war that resonate on a deeply personal level. The opening lines, "Somos hijos de tigre, nacimos pintados, con el odio y la guerra en la piel tatuados" ("We are children of the tiger, born painted with hate and war tattooed on our skin"), suggest that the singer is addressing those who have been born into a world where violence and conflict are constant features of life. The references to "fire" and "chainsaw" underscore the feelings of danger and vulnerability that this world engenders.
As the song progresses, the singer seems to be reflecting on the nature of violence itself, describing it as "the law of the strongest" and suggesting that those who cannot withstand it "let themselves explode" and "sacrifice the sacred". However, the singer also offers a message of hope in the face of this violence. "Brother tiger of violence, let us be free," she sings, suggesting that the only way to overcome the destructive power of violence is to reject it entirely and embrace a more peaceful and loving way of life.
In the end, the song offers a powerful affirmation of life in the face of violence and war. It suggests that even those who have been born into a world of hatred and conflict can find a way to overcome it and transform themselves into "liberating force(s)".
