La Estaca
Aterciopelados Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tus ojos son dos luceros
Que alumbran los basureros
Tus patas son dos estacas
Para amarrar muchas vacas
Tu pelo es como un trapero
Enredado, sucio y feo
Tu corazón no palpita
Y es peligroso cual dinamita

Adiós, que te vaya bien
Que te coja un carro
Que te parta un rayo
Que te destripe un tren
Adiós, que te vaya bien
Que te muerda un perro
Que te lleve el diablo y
Márquez calavera

Tu cerebro retorcido
Ahí, de serpientes es un nido
Tu estomago no siente hambre
El exceso de bilis le causó, un calambre
Tus manos saben karate
Hay quisiera Dios que no me maten
Eres ave de mal agüero
Y si no me alejo me muero

Adiós, que te vaya bien
Que te coja un carro
Que te parta un rayo
Que te destripe un tren
Adiós, que te vaya bien
Que te muerda un perro
Que te lleve el diablo y
Márquez calavera

Tú no eres una persona
Tú no eres mas que un salvaje

Y yo te quiero a morir
Pues que yo te quiero

Overall Meaning

The Aterciopelados song La Estaca is a protest song that uses metaphorical language to criticize oppressive and limiting social structures. The word "estaca" in the title and throughout the song refers to a stake or pole used for tying animals. The song begins with the description of an unsavory character whose eyes are two small lights that shine over garbage dumps. The person's legs are compared to stakes, useful only for tying up many cows. The hair is described as tangled, dirty, and ugly, and the heart is dangerous like dynamite. The singer then bids the person goodbye, wishing various forms of horrible misfortune upon them.

The second verse continues with the insulting comparisons, describing the person's twisted brain as a nest of snakes, and the stomach as unable to feel hunger due to the excess of bile. The hands are said to know karate, which makes the singer afraid that they will be killed. The subject is presented as a bad omen, and the singer concludes with the idea that the person is not a human being but a savage. However, despite all these unflattering descriptions, the final line of the song declares that the singer loves this individual immensely, suggesting perhaps that this person may represent a part of themselves or their own society they are critical of.
