Aterciopelados, whose name translates as "The Velvety Ones," was formed by former members of Delia Y Los Aminoacidos -- Andrea Echeverri, who plays acoustic guitar and sings lead, and Héctor Buitrago, who plays bass guitar. The original drummer Andres Giraldo* was replaced by Alejandro Duque in 1995 and the original guitar player Charlie Marquez was replaced by Alejandro Gomez Caceras in 1997. Also, lead singer Andrea Echeverri was chosen by Gustavo Cerati to sing "En la Ciudad de la Furia" for Soda Stereo's MTV Unplugged album.
Andrés Giraldo was also part of the Bogotá based band Bloque de Busqueda, known for their mix of artisan / folkloric music with a modern twist full of prominent beats.
Echeverri came out with a self-titled solo album in 2004, "Aemeo" is the lead song in this album.
The band recieved Grammy award nominations in 1997 and 1998.
In October of 2006 they released the album Oye, just a couple of months after Héctor Buitrago came out with his Conhector first solo album.

Levántate que hay que volver, why la victoria hay que cantar,
No llores ponte a respirar, no llores fuerzas reponer,
Levántate tiempo de actuar,
Que hay muchos juegos por jugar
why nada de nervios, sube al decibelio, uh hey ho
Why deja que el viento, active el misterio, uh hey ho
No llores, cruces no cargar, no llores penas enterrar,
No llores lágrimas volar, no llores tristezas barrer,
Levántate que hay que volver, why la victoria hay que cantar,
No llores ponte a respirar, no llores fuerzas reponer,
Levántate tiempo de actuar,
Que hay muchas marchas por marchar
The song "No Llores" by Aterciopelados reminds the listener not to cry or feel sad, but rather rise and take action. The lyrics are full of motivational sayings and references to different spiritual beliefs. The first verse encourages not to cry, but to let the tears fly away and sweep away the sadness. The message is clear, don't dwell on negative emotions, it's time to get up and start fighting back. The next verse talks about the need to regain strength and breathe, to prepare for the battles ahead. The artist emphasizes the need to stay calm and not let the nerves take over. The chorus repeats the message several times, highlighting that we must not cry or carry crosses, but rather listen to the whales in the sea and embrace different spiritual figures. The song names several spiritual figures such as Ganesh, San Juan, Tonanzin, Bachué, Kwan Yin, Querubín, Gabriel, San Luis, and Ezequiel. This passage emphasizes the need to embrace different spiritual beliefs to gain strength. The final verse tells the listener that they can always pick themselves up and continue forward, without dwelling on mistakes. The song concludes with another reminder not to cry, but to march and fight back against the battles and injustices of the world.
