BarlowGirl's Philosophy
The band has gained a following with their "Anti-Conformity" message of "Don't be conformed, be Transformed" from Romans 12:1-2. Besides believing in abstinence and modesty, the band has also taken a stand on not dating, but their main message remains that people should look to God for love and security, and he will bring everything else into our lives. Very simply, trust God. They encourage people to trust the unseen. Just because you can't see God doesn't mean He isn't there!
Self Titled Debut Album
BarlowGirl instantly hit the spotlight in 2004 with their acclaimed self-titled debut album, coupled with the success of its first single, Never Alone. The longest running No. 1 song in 2004 on R&R’s CHR and CRW Rock charts, Never Alone was named "Song of the Year" on each of these charts. The CD has sold over 250,000 units (as of April 2005) and featured the singles Never Alone and Mirror which both garnered much airplay on Christian radio stations. These number one songs earned the trio four 2005 GMA (Gospel Music Association) awards (formerly the Dove Award) award nominations, including the prestigious Best New Artist award, Best Rock Song and Rock Album. The trio was the best selling new Christian artist of 2004. BarlowGirl received a 2006 GMA award nomination for Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year for Mirror.
Another Journal Entry
Their second album, Another Journal Entry, was released on September 27, 2005. The first single from the album, Let Go, had already begun receiving airplay on Christian radio stations. Their next single from this album, I Need You to Love Me, has also received recent some airplay on some Christian radio stations after the album's debut. The album debuted at #3 on Soundscan's Christian album chart, and, as of Oct. 10, is at 85 on Billboards Top 200 Current Albums chart. The trio was nominated for three additional 2006 GMA (Gospel Music Association) awards: Group of the Year, Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year, and and Rock Recorded Song of the Year for Let Go.
Average Girl

I don't meet the standards of this world
Chasing after boys is not my thing
See I'm waiting for a wedding ring
No more dating
I'm just waiting
Like sleeping beauty
No more dating
I'm just waiting
'Cause God is writing my love story
Boys are bad; that's certainly not true
'Cause God's preparing one for you
If you get tired waiting till he comes
God's arms are the perfect place to run
No more dating
I'm just waiting
Like sleeping beauty
My prince will come for me
No more dating
I'm just waiting
'Cause God is writing my love story
Sleep, that's the only thing for me
'Cause when I sleep
God's preparing one for me
No more dating
I'm just waiting
Like sleeping beauty
My prince will come for me
No more dating
I'm just waiting
'Cause God is writing my love story
BarlowGirl's song "Average Girl" is an empowering declaration of a young woman's decision to live differently from what society expects of her. The singer declares that she is not an average girl who conforms to the world's standards or constantly chases after boys. Instead, she is waiting for her prince charming and recognizing that only God can write her love story. The song stresses the importance of waiting for the right person and trusting that God will provide the perfect match.
The first verse highlights the singer's desire to live independently of the world and its expectations. She states that she is not the kind of girl who conforms to society's standards and does not need a man to be validated. Then she emphasizes that chasing boys is not her thing, and the only thing she is waiting for is a wedding ring. The chorus repeats the line "no more dating," affirming the singer's resolution to stop dating until she finds the right person. The bridge contrasts the popular belief that all boys are bad, claiming that God is preparing a good one for each woman. The singer encourages those who are tired of waiting with the assurance that God's arms are the perfect place to run.
The second verse further explains the singer's choice to wait. She likens herself to Sleeping Beauty, waiting for her prince to come, and says that sleeping is the only thing she needs to do because God is preparing the right man for her while she rests. The last two lines of the bridge repeat the idea that God is working on each woman's love story and stresses the importance of trusting in His plan.
