BarlowGirl's Philosophy
The band has gained a following with their "Anti-Conformity" message of "Don't be conformed, be Transformed" from Romans 12:1-2. Besides believing in abstinence and modesty, the band has also taken a stand on not dating, but their main message remains that people should look to God for love and security, and he will bring everything else into our lives. Very simply, trust God. They encourage people to trust the unseen. Just because you can't see God doesn't mean He isn't there!
Self Titled Debut Album
BarlowGirl instantly hit the spotlight in 2004 with their acclaimed self-titled debut album, coupled with the success of its first single, Never Alone. The trio was the best selling new Christian artist of 2004. BarlowGirl received a 2006 GMA award nomination for Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year for Mirror.

She Walked Away
BarlowGirl Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Home was more her prison now
Independence called out
She had to get it
A fight was all she needed
To give her reason
She slammed the door with no goodbye
Now she's driving to fast
She didn't care to glance behind
And through her tears she laughed
It's time to kiss the past goodbye
I'm finally on my own
Don't try to tell me no
There's so much more for me
Just watch what I will be
[Chorus]
She walked away
Couldn't say why she was leaving
She walked away
She left all she had believed in
Not a day goes by
For the ones she's left behind
They're always asking "why?"
And thoughts of her consume her mind
God please let her know
The love we tried to show
We'd promise anything
If you'd just bring her home
[Chorus]
Tell her we love her
Tell her she's wanted
And one more thing God
Tell her please, come home
Please, come home
[Chorus: x2]
The choice is yours alone now
Tell me how this story, ends
The lyrics to BarlowGirl's "She Walked Away" tell the story of a young woman who feels trapped in her home and seeks independence. She reaches a breaking point and decides to leave without saying goodbye to her loved ones. She speeds away in her car, leaving everything behind with a mixture of tears and laughter. The chorus expresses the confusion and sorrow of those she left behind, who constantly wonder why she made the decision to leave. They pray that God brings her back home, and the song ends with a plea for the listener to consider the consequences of their choices.
The opening lines of the song describe the singer's emotional state: "She couldn't take one more day/Home was more her prison now." The monotony and claustrophobia of her daily life has become suffocating, and she craves freedom. The lyrics reveal that her decision to leave was somewhat impulsive: "A fight was all she needed/To give her reason/She slammed the door with no goodbye/And knew that it was time." However, as she drives away from her old life, she experiences a mix of emotions, including tears and laughter.
The chorus expresses the confusion and sorrow of those left behind: "Not a day goes by/For the ones she's left behind/They're always asking 'why?'/And thoughts of her consume their mind." They can't understand why she left everything behind, including the core beliefs that she held dear. They pray for her to come back and are willing to do anything to show her that they love her.
Overall, "She Walked Away" is a poignant reflection on the difficult decision to leave behind everything you know in search of something better. The song raises questions about what drives people to step outside of their comfort zones and the consequences that they face when they do.
