BarlowGirl's Philosophy
The band has gained a following with their "Anti-Conformity" message of "Don't be conformed, be Transformed" from Romans 12:1-2. Besides believing in abstinence and modesty, the band has also taken a stand on not dating, but their main message remains that people should look to God for love and security, and he will bring everything else into our lives. Very simply, trust God. They encourage people to trust the unseen. Just because you can't see God doesn't mean He isn't there!
Self Titled Debut Album
BarlowGirl instantly hit the spotlight in 2004 with their acclaimed self-titled debut album, coupled with the success of its first single, Never Alone. The longest running No. 1 song in 2004 on R&R’s CHR and CRW Rock charts, Never Alone was named "Song of the Year" on each of these charts. The CD has sold over 250,000 units (as of April 2005) and featured the singles Never Alone and Mirror which both garnered much airplay on Christian radio stations. These number one songs earned the trio four 2005 GMA (Gospel Music Association) awards (formerly the Dove Award) award nominations, including the prestigious Best New Artist award, Best Rock Song and Rock Album. The trio was the best selling new Christian artist of 2004. BarlowGirl received a 2006 GMA award nomination for Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year for Mirror.
Another Journal Entry
Their second album, Another Journal Entry, was released on September 27, 2005. The first single from the album, Let Go, had already begun receiving airplay on Christian radio stations. Their next single from this album, I Need You to Love Me, has also received recent some airplay on some Christian radio stations after the album's debut. The album debuted at #3 on Soundscan's Christian album chart, and, as of Oct. 10, is at 85 on Billboards Top 200 Current Albums chart. Superstar
BarlowGirl Lyrics

But I hate to wake 'cause it's then I see
That I'm nothing more than a dreamer
Superstar in my dreams, I'm a dreamer
See the lights of stardom were calling me
Because only then someone I would be
So my goal in life was to get there
I wanna be a star
But is that all I'm really here for?
And if I'm not a star, will it be okay?
Could I still be someone?
Guess I'm scared to wake from these super dreams
Scared to live the life that's been waiting for me
What would life be like with no bright lights?
Tell me who I'd be with no spotlight?
God you'll have to say who I really am
'Cause I can not live in this perfect dreamland.
But I've heard your dreams might be better
And I hope somehow they are
I wanna be a star
But is that all I'm really here for?
And if I'm not a star, will it be okay?
Could I still be someone?
A superstar I may never be
And that is just a reality
Why can't we be
God's superstars?
The lyrics to BarlowGirl's song "Superstar" explore the idea of chasing after fame and success to fulfill one's own dreams and desires. The song starts off with the singer expressing how they have always dreamt of becoming a superstar and how they hate waking up because it means realizing they are just a dreamer. They have been lured by the glitz and glamour of stardom and believe that achieving it will make them someone. The lyrics then delve into questioning the true purpose of their life and if being a star is all they strive for.
The chorus ponders if it would be okay to not meet that goal and if they could still be someone. The singer is afraid to leave their dreamworld and face the reality of a life without the spotlight. They plead with God to reveal who they truly are and acknowledge that they cannot keep living in this perfect dreamland. The song concludes with the notion that becoming a superstar may never happen, but being God's superstar is a reality for anyone.
"Superstar" is a heartfelt ballad that emphasizes the importance of finding one's true purpose in life and that true fulfillment comes from serving a higher power. The song's theme resonates with many who have struggled with their identity, purpose, and self-worth. The lyrics are a reminder that fame and success are not the ultimate goal and that there is something far more significant than the temporary pleasure and satisfaction that comes with achieving it.
