BarlowGirl's Philosophy
The band has gained a following with their "Anti-Conformity" message of "Don't be conformed, be Transformed" from Romans 12:1-2. Besides believing in abstinence and modesty, the band has also taken a stand on not dating, but their main message remains that people should look to God for love and security, and he will bring everything else into our lives. Very simply, trust God. They encourage people to trust the unseen. Just because you can't see God doesn't mean He isn't there!
Self Titled Debut Album
BarlowGirl instantly hit the spotlight in 2004 with their acclaimed self-titled debut album, coupled with the success of its first single, Never Alone. The longest running No. 1 song in 2004 on R&R’s CHR and CRW Rock charts, Never Alone was named "Song of the Year" on each of these charts. The CD has sold over 250,000 units (as of April 2005) and featured the singles Never Alone and Mirror which both garnered much airplay on Christian radio stations. These number one songs earned the trio four 2005 GMA (Gospel Music Association) awards (formerly the Dove Award) award nominations, including the prestigious Best New Artist award, Best Rock Song and Rock Album. The trio was the best selling new Christian artist of 2004. BarlowGirl received a 2006 GMA award nomination for Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year for Mirror.
Another Journal Entry
Their second album, Another Journal Entry, was released on September 27, 2005. The first single from the album, Let Go, had already begun receiving airplay on Christian radio stations. Their next single from this album, I Need You to Love Me, has also received recent some airplay on some Christian radio stations after the album's debut. The album debuted at #3 on Soundscan's Christian album chart, and, as of Oct. 10, is at 85 on Billboards Top 200 Current Albums chart. The trio was nominated for three additional 2006 GMA (Gospel Music Association) awards: Group of the Year, Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year, and and Rock Recorded Song of the Year for Let Go.
Harder Than The First Time
BarlowGirl Lyrics

Just like we've done for so long
You seemed so near
But even that's become so common
It's not just you, just been together so long
That I thought I knew everything about you
But today I saw; did you open up my eyes?
[Chorus]
I didn't see you
But God I want to
You've come alive
And I think I've fallen harder than the first time
Was I so blind; how did I not see you?
Yet in all that time you never left my side
So for all my life, I will live to know you
So here I am; I'll take your hand
[Chorus]
I see your face; I feel you close
The love you've always shown me
Won't miss it now, can't waste a day
Jesus I'm yours completely
[Chorus]
The song "Harder Than The First Time" by BarlowGirl speaks about the familiarity that develops in a long-term relationship, wherein one's partner seems so near, but at the same time, an element of mundanity sets in. The song is likening this sense of taking someone for granted to walking alongside someone we've known for so long, that we begin to think we know everything about them. However, the lyrics then delve deeper into the idea that sometimes it takes truly opening our eyes to a person to rediscover them anew. Suddenly, we see their depths and complexities that draw us towards them, and we fall even harder for them than the first time we fell in love with them.
The chorus of the song drives home this idea with powerful lyrics. The singer describes how she "didn't see" her partner before and now feels that she has "fallen harder than the first time." The second verse goes on to reflect on how we may have missed seeing people's true selves before, but they never left our sides. The lyrics are a reminder of the beauty of seeing people for who they truly are and cherishing them. In the end, the song is a declaration of love for Jesus, with the singer acknowledging His immeasurable love and pledging herself to Him completely.

I walked with you
I have been with you for a long time

I have become too comfortable around you
It's not just you, just been together so long
It's not just you, we've been together for so long
That I thought I knew everything about you

'Cause I feel like I've just seen you for the first time
I feel like I have just met you for the first time
I didn't see you

You have become more real to me
And I think I've fallen harder than the first time
I think I love you more deeply than ever before
Was I so blind; how did I not see you?
Was I really that blind to your greatness?
Yet in all that time you never left my side
Despite my blindness, you were always there for me
So for all my life, I will live to know you
So for the rest of my life, I will seek to know you
So here I am; I'll take your hand
I am ready and willing to take your hand
