April In Paris
Charlie Parker Quartet with Jimmy Carroll & His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I never knew the charm of spring
I never met it face to face
I never knew my heart could sing
I never missed a warm embrace

Till April in Paris, chestnuts in blossom
Holiday tables under the trees
April in Paris, this is a feeling
That no one can ever reprise

I never knew the charm of spring
I never met it face to face
I never knew my heart could sing
I never missed a warm embrace
Till April in Paris

Whom can I run to
What have you done to my heart

Overall Meaning

The song "April in Paris" by the Charlie Parker Quartet with Jimmy Carroll & His Orchestra is a love song that expresses the joy and beauty of experiencing the city of Paris in the spring. The first stanza describes the singer's previous lack of appreciation for the season of spring and its positive effects. The second stanza, which is repeated, speaks specifically of the singer's experience in visiting Paris during the month of April and how it changed their perception of everything. The flowering chestnut trees, tables outside cafés, and overall romantic atmosphere of the city all contribute to a feeling that is impossible to duplicate.

This is Orchestral "Organic Real Jazz" smoothly delivered by the much-imitated, never-duplicated virtuosic maestro of the saxophone, Sir Charles Parker.

1949 is 2015 in respect of Charlie Parker's musical poignancy and indomitable eminence - his smoothness and facility of even the most complex and apparently insurmountable Jazz arpeggios, phrases, declarative and interrogative sentences, not forgetting his effective usages of spacing and 'Sheets of sound' whenever necessary.

It's worthy of applauses the fact that Charlie is able to navigate efficiently despite the orchestral strings presence and orchestral intervention, and the almost 'restrictive' discipline such arrangements require.

But alas! Charlie is King of the saxophone, isn't he? Say, "True's that!"

The so-called "Smooth Jazz" radios, TV and other networks are rendering a disservice to the general public by neglecting to expose it to the multiplicity of genres and styles of this saxophone monarch.

His sound-voice on the alto saxophone is as haunting as it is smoothy smooth a la Billy Holiday's.

With Charlie's conversational discourses, April is not only in Paris in April, it does exist throughout the world perennially.

To and For Charlie Parker and 'Lady' Day:

You are in our hearts and in the Heart of God.

Tks. for the post!
