HERO
Chemistry Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

"Ordinary Hero" by Chemistry is an emotive song that revolves around the idea of finding strength in the ordinary. The lyrics start by describing how the singer feels like they are the only one in the world, but the reality of feeling alone is a cliché that is commonly found in TV shows and movies. The singer then reflects that there's nothing extraordinary about the situations they face but feels better standing behind the person they want to comfort. The chorus is a declaration that they will go to the person in need and try to make things better, even though they know they are just "ordinary" and can't do anything like fly, like a superhero.

The second verse of the song continues the theme of the chorus, with the singer narrating how they look for ways to make things better for the person they are thinking about. The singer uses a metaphor of rain clouds forming and covering the sky to describe how they feel. They acknowledge that some of the things they are thinking about are depressing, but they are still making an effort to change them. The lyrics use the scene of a hero flying across the sky as a contrast to the mundane things that need fixing in real life. The song concludes with the singer expressing their determination to go to the person and spend time with them, even if they don't have anything extraordinary to say or do.

Overall, "Ordinary Hero" is a heartwarming message that emphasizes the power of small acts of kindness when trying to help those in need. It's a reminder that sometimes all it takes to be a hero is a comforting presence or a listening ear.

Him and Mary Young are both heroes!

The teacher definitely was brave and showed sacrifical love, but there's something I don't understand about this story. If the chemicals were that dangerous and had to be out of the building, why didn't he just throw the beaker out the window instead of running downstairs to the door?

@MrAshuxp

without seeing were and upon whom throwing the bawl.

@stevenconnelly1468

Say that again?

@MrAshuxp

by throwing that bowl might droped on some one standing and going from there or he might didn't find appropriate windows.

@stevenconnelly1468

@Ashutosh Chakraborty that's possible.

guys, its a second story window. They put the chem lab on the second/top floor so the chemical hoods could vent directly through the roof. for a school in the 80s, those windows most likely don't open. the windows are there to let in light, not to be used for ventilation. this was common for school buildings that were multistory back then. For schools, even 1st story windows could not be opened. And they were made of a strong glass that resisted breaking. Now a days, we think of windows as a potential escape during a shooting for schools, but that was not considered when building schools in the 70s and 80s. the logic would be to keep kids from sneaking out through a window, of falling and crashing through a window, of breaking a window and getting cut. Basically the windows keep people in while letting in natural lighting. They don't need to open for air when all schools had air conditioning then. It was a more innocent time.
The best course at the time would have been to get the beaker into a stairwell and leave it there to explode in what's basically a concrete vertical bunker but i think he thought he could make it. Of course sodium samples should never have been in a beaker open to the air. They can explode like this if the humidity is too high. they have to be submerged in oil so the don't contact air. If chemicals were in this bad a state and left mixed together and broken open, the whole lot should have been disposed of. Its a money loss for the school and even back then schools didn't have the best funding, but the potential hazard was too high. Especially to ask students to help handling it. Again a more innocent and less lawsuit heavy time. As for the money loss, the school should have charged the renovation company that mismanaged the handling of these chemicals. As bad a condition as they said, stuff closer to the bottom could have cracked or shattered with glass shards everywhere, acids or strong bases could have leaked and burned students, schools were still allowed to have mercury back then. This is just all manner of "nope."
If this happened today, the procedure would be to evacuate the room and adjacent rooms, don't even try to run out with it, you could have run into an even more crowded hallway, and just let it explode in the room. You have no idea how long you have before it explodes so assume it will explode nearly immediately and get out.
