Cornershop is an Indie Rock band formed in 1991 from Leicester, UK, consist… Read Full Bio ↴Cornershop is an Indie Rock band formed in 1991 from Leicester, UK, consisting of Tjinder Singh (singer, songwriter, and dholki player), Ben Ayres (guitar, keyboards, and tamboura), Anthony Saffery (sitar, keyboards and harmonium), Nick Simms (drums) and Peter Bengry (percussion). Most of the original members were also in the Preston band General Havoc.

Their name comes from a term that refers to Indian immigrants that move to England, in that they often own street corner stores. Their music is a fusion of Indian music, British indie rock, and electronic dance.

In 1997, Cornershop shot into the UK charts with the song 'Brimful of Asha' reaching number 60! Things changed when DJ Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim) remixed the track for re-release in 1998. The remix topped the chart, selling over 200,000 copies in 7 days! The track featured lyrics about Bollywood playback singer, Asha Bhosle.

Thanks for the song and video comments. I must say I agree with you on the Radiohead thing. The thing is they have always seen Radiohead as being one of the bands born of all the privileges that life can give. Tjinder has said 'they are not Nirvana, they are not even the rock group Nirvana,' which goes to show the extent of the exercise.

No, of course its not the last song, its talking about the world blowing up and in that countdown to self destruction, making up what will be the last song. We are not wrong yet, and you have not helped at all.

Of course, I didn't help at all and it wasn't meant that serious. But what can stop this self destruction? The problems of today are too huge to be solved by mankind - we are running towards the abyss. I think the only hope is Jesus coming back and making everything new - May he redeem us. Thanks for your song "the turned on truth" I love it!

Although they deserve to be taken down several pegs, Radiohead was sometimes interesting. It's not all disposable. I never felt like surrendering to the void after hearing one of their gorgeously pretentious tunes.
There's enough room in the musical tapestry for politically impotent, negative, solipsistic formal exercises with no redeeming social value, too, give Thom and Jonny their due.

Sorry it was meant to be a rather stupid funk reply. The self destruction button seems to be firmly held down, or is it just that people have forgotten how much humanity has advanced. It was held that individual values may help swerve opinion for how the world went, but there is little regard for how the majority feel. Still for us, individual values are the sign of a quality of life and that is why we have songs like this & The Turned On Truth, which we're v glad you like.
