Distemper Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to Distemper's song "Про собачек" depict the stark contrast between two dogs - one beloved and well-cared for, and the other neglected and abused. The first dog is described as having fluffy curls, a dense black nose, and a happy face. It was adored by children and referred to as a "barboshik" (a term of endearment). The dog was even given three candies a day as a treat. In contrast, the second dog is owned by a dirty alcoholic neighbor. It is inherited by him and named "Tolik". This dog does not receive any affection and longs for food. Instead of being fed sausages, it is beaten on the ears.
The lyrics also highlight the joy and unity among all the stray dogs in the neighborhood. Despite their pain and hardships, they find solace in each other's company. They lie quietly, their ears pricked up and tails wagging happily, listening and appreciating the music played by a music-loving girl named Nastya, who opens the window opposite. She plays Distemper's music day and night, bringing them happiness. The dogs join in by singing along and howling in unison, momentarily forgetting about their bruises and hunger.
