Minha mãe quem diz
Predestinado ao canto
Ela falou que eu tinha o dom
Quando eu estava na soleira
Dos meus poucos anos
Foi indo assim, quando dei por mim
Cantava ali, só pra ela ouvir
E me dizer coisas tão boas
Por exemplo
Quero vê-lo o mais querido
Como nosso Orlando
Hei de ler seu nome escrito
Em placa de avenida
Não vai mudar, toda mãe é assim
Mãe é o nome do amor
Logo cresci
Minha mãe ali
Dona do horizonte
Me fez ouvir Dalva de Oliveira
E Ângela Maria todo dia
Deusas que adorava
Tinha prazer em me levar pra ver
Luiz Gonzaga cantar
Não sem deixar de advertir
Pra que eu estudasse sempre mais
E sem descanso
Quero vê-lo o mais querido
Como nosso Orlando
Hei de ler seu nome escrito
Em placa de avenida
Não vai mudar, toda mãe é assim
Mãe é o nome do amor
Quero vê-lo o mais querido
Como nosso Orlando
Hei de ler seu nome escrito
Em placa de avenida
Não vai mudar, toda mãe é assim
Mãe é o nome do amor
The lyrics of Djavan's song "Dona do Horizonte" talk about the singer's relationship with his mother and her influence on his musical career.
In the first verse, Djavan explains that he was destined to be a singer. His mother recognized his talent from a young age and told him that he had the gift of singing. This realization came when Djavan was just a child, suggesting that his musical journey started at a very early stage.
As he grew up, Djavan found himself constantly singing. He couldn't resist the urge to express himself through music and would sing for his mother to listen to. In return, she would say kind and encouraging words to him, boosting his confidence. The lyrics suggest that his mother's unwavering support was crucial in fueling his passion for music.
The second verse reveals how Djavan's mother shaped his musical taste. She introduced him to artists like Dalva de Oliveira and Ângela Maria, whom he admired and listened to every day. These female singers became idols to him, and he particularly enjoyed going to see Luiz Gonzaga, a famous Brazilian musician, perform live. His mother not only exposed him to great music but also emphasized the importance of education, urging him to study diligently.
The chorus of the song repeats the line "Quero vê-lo o mais querido" (I want to see you the most beloved) and the mention of Orlando. This can be interpreted metaphorically as Djavan's desire to become a beloved and renowned musician, like the famous Brazilian singer Orlando Silva. His mother's dream is for Djavan to have his name written on a street sign, a symbol of recognition and success.
The lyrics end by emphasizing the universal nature of a mother's love. Djavan sings that all mothers are the same in their unwavering support and affection. The phrase "Mãe é o nome do amor" (Mother is the name of love) encapsulates the profound bond between mother and child, highlighting the importance of a mother's role in nurturing and encouraging her child's dreams.
