Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

I Know a Place
Doris Day Lyrics

And the shop and the store
Put the lock on the door
Just get away
Where your worries won't find you
If you like, well I'll tell you more
Don't let the day get the better of you
There's so much to do
You better put on your best
And wear a smile
Just come along with me awhile
'Cause I tell you
I know a place
Where the music is fine
And the lights are always low
I know a place where we can go
At the door there's a man who will greet you
Then you go downstairs
To some tables and chairs
Soon I'm sure you'll be tappin' your feet
Because the beat is the greatest there
All around there are girls and boys
It's a swingin' place
A cellar full of noise
It's got an atmosphere
Of its own somehow
You gotta come along right now
'Cause I tell you
I know a place
Where the music is fine
And the lights are always low
I know a place where we can go
Well, all around there are girls and boys
It's a swingin' place
A cellar full of noise
It's got an atmosphere
Of its own somehow
You gotta come along right now
'Cause I tell you
I know a place
Where the music is fine
And the lights are always low
I know a place where we can go
I know a place where we can go
I know a place where the lights are low
You're gonna love this place I know
I know a place where we can go
The lyrics to Doris Day's song "I Know A Place" paint a picture of a carefree escape from the stresses of everyday life. The song begins with a description of leaving work and locking up shop, in order to avoid worries and find solace. The chorus then invites the listener to join the singer at a particular destination; a place where the music is fine and the lights are always low.
The second verse takes the listener on a journey through the entrance of this mysterious location, where they are greeted by a man at the door and continue down the stairs where they find tables and chairs waiting for them. The energy in the atmosphere is lively and the beat of the music is contagious, encouraging listeners to tap their feet and become fully immersed in the swingin' scene.
Overall, "I Know A Place" is a song about finding reprieve from one's day-to-day burdens by escaping to a lively music venue with a unique energy and atmosphere.
