Swallow
by Emilie Autumn

I'll tell the truth: all of my songs
Are pretty much the fucking same
I'm not a faerie but I need
More than this life so I became
This creature representing more to you
Than just another girl
And if I had a chance to change my mind
I wouldn't for the world
Twenty years
Sinking slowly
Can I trust you
But I don't want to

I will swallow
If it will help my sea level go down
But I'll come back to haunt you if I drown
I will swallow
If it will help my sea level go down
I'll take a deep deep breath
But I'll come back to haunt you if I drown

I don't want to be a legend
Oh well that's a god damned lie - I do
To say I do this for the people
I admit is hardly true
You tell me everything's all right
As though it's something you've been through
You think this torment is romantic
Well it's not except to you
Twenty years
Sinking slowly
Can I trust you
But I don't want to

I will swallow
If it will help my sea level go down
But I'll come back to haunt you if I drown
I will swallow
If it will help my sea level go down
I'll take a deep deep breath
But I'll come back to haunt you if I drown

Low tide and high tea
The oysters are waiting for me
If I'm not there on time
I'll send my emissary
If I photoshop you
Out of every picture I could
Go quietly quiet
But would that do any good
Will it hurt? No it won't
Then what am I so afraid of
Filthy victorians
They made me what I'm made of
The brighter the light
The darker the shadow
I don't need a minder
I've made up my mind
Go away

Twenty years
Sinking slowly
Can I trust you
But I don't want to

I will swallow
If it will help my sea level go down
But I'll come back to haunt you if I drown
I will swallow
If it will help my sea level go down
I'll take a deep deep breath
But I'll come back to haunt you if I drown

Remembering my high school wanna be goth-industrial guy...

Same man... All of that is now far, yet Emily remains a genius, much more having ten years more of experience and knowledge to approach to her vision from.

This song has helped me over soooo many years with my bipolar disorder, the medication, psychiatrists, relationships, etc.

That's a beautiful story. I also suffer from bipolar disorder, psychosis and OCD and eating disorders. Pain and suffering makes for good poetry... haha sadly. I hope you are in a better place today and that youre living your living life to the fullest. You deserve it!

Honestly think she's so underated because most people do not understand the meaning of her songs or the satire in many of them. I showed her to many of my friends and they simply said it sounds different and it's pretty cool. They didn't get the deep meaning really.
I adore her she's help me get through so much.

Same here. Emilie has such a way with words, for me,it's uncanny how easily she's able to convey complex emotion and how effortlessly she's bale to make it relate-able . She has to be one of the most under-rated artists of this generation.

I love you Emily I will always swallow but I will come back to haunt you if I drown

Keep making beautiful music!

As someone with bipolar, this song has helped me a lot. I didn’t completely understand it til I got diagnosed, but once I did, I bawled because it was so true.
