The band eventually broke up in 1996 and Bunbury started his solo career in 1997 with a techno album, Radical Sonora with his new band: Copi (piano), del Moran (bass), Ramón Gacias (drums) and former Héroes del Silencio guitarrist Alan Boguslavsky.
Recognized by his wish to always reinvent himself, Bunbury released in 1999 the album Pequeño, which sounded much different than anything he did before. His band also suffered changes, Boguslavsky was replaced by Rafa Domínguez, and the new faces, Ana Belén Estaje (violin), Luis Miguel Romero (percussion), Javier Iñigo, Javier García Vega & Antonio Ríos in the metal instruments.
This band was known as the "Huracán Ambulante" ("Rambling Hurricane") and recorded with Bunbury the rest of his solo discography, (except Antonio Ríos).
In 2005, after 8 years together, Bunbury dissolved the band and declared that will record a new album in 2006 only with his voice and a piano. Nevertheless, in early 2006 he recorded an album with spanish artist Nacho Vegas by the name of El tiempo de las cerezas.
His old band, Héroes del Silencio, reunited in 2007 for a short tour which visited Latin America, United States and Spain.

The song "En La Pulpería De Lucita" by Enrique Bunbury tells the story of a man who spends his afternoons at Lucita's tavern, watching the sun set over the malecon (boardwalk). Despite the pleasant atmosphere, the man is saddened by Lucita losing her head over a gringo who stumbles around the tavern in search of rum. As the man sits at his usual table, Lucita always inquires about what he writes in his notebook, and when he refuses to show her, she becomes curious. The man plays a song he has written for Lucita, asking her to meet him on the beach in San Juan del Sur.
Throughout the song, there is a clear sense of nostalgia and bittersweet longing. The man admires the simplicity of life at the tavern, but he also recognizes the cyclical nature of it all. He sees Lucita getting caught up in the same patterns - falling for the wrong men, serving the same drinks - and he wishes he could help her break free. The song's chorus repeats the phrase "es una canción para Lucita," emphasizing that the man has written this song specifically for her. Overall, "En La Pulpería De Lucita" is a tender and melancholic tribute to a woman and a place that hold a special meaning to the singer.
