In 2005, Estopa signed a global music publishing deal with BMG Music Publishing.
The name of the group, "Estopa" (tow, in english) refers to when both brothers worked together at a SEAT automobile factory and, in their own words, a boss kept on screaming at them, "¡Dale estopa!" which means something like "Work hard!".

Yo he crecido con estopa, gracias a mi padre que era un fan muy fuerte de ellos. Murió hace una semana y, pensé q podía escucharlos como de corriente. Me acabo de venir abajo tanto que me jode en el alma. Mi padre tiene vuestra misma edad, es joven... Tenía todavía km por recorrer y estas canciones siempre q íbamos de folixa no faltaban con las sidras. Es un palo gordo el tener q escuchar algo que me encanta y que me duele como espina.
