Almost Like Beeing in Love
Frank Sinatra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What a day this has been!
What a rare mood I'm in!
Why, it's almost like being in love

There's a smile on my face
For the whole human race
Why it's almost like being in love
All the music of life seems to be
Like a bell that is ringing for me
And from the way that I feel
When that bell starts to peal
I would swear I was falling
I could swear I was falling
It's almost like being in love

All the music of life seems to be
Like a bell that is ringing for me
And from the way that I feel
When that bell starts to peal
I would swear that I'm falling
I could swear I was falling
It's almost like being in love

In fact I have fallen in love

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Frank Sinatra's song "Almost Like Being in Love" express a feeling of euphoria and lightness that accompanies falling in love. The singer describes their rare and happy mood, which is almost like being in love. They feel a smile on their face for the whole human race, all the music of life seems to be ringing for them, and they swear they are falling in love. This feeling is so strong that the singer can barely distinguish it from the actual experience of falling in love. The song captures the intoxicating feeling of falling in love, where everything seems brighter and more beautiful.

The song, written by Frederick Loewe and Alan Jay Lerner, was first featured in the Broadway musical Brigadoon in 1947. The song was sung by the character Tommy Albright as he realizes that he has fallen in love with Brigadoon, a magical Scottish village that appears only once every hundred years. The song went on to become one of Sinatra's signature tunes and a classic in the American songbook.

My favorite (by far) Sinatra years: Columbia. The quality of the voice came through in these ballads........as opposed to the finger-snapping, cigarette smoking, drinking, Rat Pack Capitol/Reprise years. By far, in my way of hearing a song, his best efforts.

Thank you, as always, The 78Prof!

Caught myself singing this song and I figured Frank Sinatra had to have sung it and sure enough he did. Glad to have found it! Stella by Starlight is another one of his from 1947 that I love.

wow, we see the jazz process in the transition from mundane 'forties swooner to to fifties upbeat swinger because of the hip changes: In 14 years time in '61 Frank was doing this at twice the tempo and Sonny Rollins was hipping out with the MJQ at crotchet = 150... !
