Every time I play this I think of the individuals playing their solos especially Bix. His cornet playing is stunning ! This should be a standard in every jazz players repertoire.

@johncoffin9354

This one stays in my mind even more than 'Singin' the Blues.' The long anticipation before Bix appears, the way he carries on with the lead after his chorus... Always good to hear a different transfer, the different aspects of Bix's inflection that are captured, he could sculpt each tone.
Plus the pictures. Doesn't Trumbauer look a bit like the Emperor Ming?

@icfubar9150

Perfect phrasing and emotion in the cornet solo by Bix. I read somewhere that this solo is considered by some to be one the three most important jazz solos of all time.

@mrajczyk

one of the most beautiful pieces of music , right next to Armstrong's Stardust, Holiday's Solitude, Beethoven, Bach and Chopin.imo

@kafenwar

I would put West End Blues before Stardust, personally.

@syncopeter

That slow tempo, in contrast with the Whiteman version, makes it the perfect vehicle for some of the most beautiful solos in jazz history and Bix's one in particular.

@msjazzmeblues

Bix's solo is so perfect that it never fails to prompt tears of joy!

@jairobueno
