All The Way

It's no good unless he loves you, all the way
Happy to be near you
When you need someone to cheer you, all the way
Taller than the tallest tree is
That's how it's gotta feel
Deeper than the deep blue sea is
When somebody needs you
It's no good unless he needs you, all the way
Through the good or lean years
And for all the in-between years, come what may
Who knows where the road will lead us
Only a fool would say
But if you'll let me love you
It's for sure I'm gonna love you, all the way, all the way
When somebody needs you
It's no good unless he needs you, all the way
Through the good or lean years
And for all the in-between years, come what may
Who knows where the road will lead us
Only a fool would say
But if you'll let me love you
It's for sure I'm gonna love you, all the way, all the way
In Harry Connick Jr.'s song All The Way, he extols the virtues of love that goes "all the way". He affirms that when a person loves another, it should be done entirely, completely, and without reservation. Any love that isn't unconditional and comprehensive can't truly be called love at all. The song stresses the importance of fidelity, trust, and commitment and insists on their necessity if a couple is to stay together "through the good or lean years and for all the in-between years, come what may".
The singer believes that love shouldn't be taken lightly and the stakes are high. He emphasizes that it's not just about being together when it’s convenient or beneficial, but it’s also about being there even in the difficult times. He paints love as something that goes much deeper than simply 'liking' someone's company, a sentiment that is captured in the line "Taller than the tallest tree is, that's how it's got to feel, Deeper than the deep blue sea is, that's how deep it goes, if it's real."
