The Way You Look Tonight

When the world is cold
I will feel a glow, just thinking of you
And the way you look tonight
Yes, you're lovely
With that smile so warm, and your cheeks so soft
There is nothing for me but to love you
With each word, your tenderness grows
Tearing my fears apart
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose
Touches my foolish heart
(You're) lovely, never never change, keep that breathless charm
Won't you please arrange it?
Because I love you
And the way you look tonight
With each word you tenderness grows
Tearing my fears apart
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose
Touches my foolish heart
(You're) lovely, don't you ever change. Keep that breathless charm.
Won't you please arrange it?
Because I love you
Just the way you look tonight
Oh, oh, just the way you look tonight.
The lyrics of Harry Connick Jr.'s "The Way You Look Tonight" express the power of love and the way it can uplift and warm an individual's heart, even during tough times. The first stanza sets a gloomy tone, with the sense of loneliness and coldness of the world when things go wrong. However, the singer turns to the image of their loved one, and this thought brings a sense of warmth and glowing within them. The way the person looks tonight is enough to lift the singer's spirits, even when they are feeling low.
The lyrics continue to describe the person's smile and soft cheeks, and how they bring nothing to the singer but love. The way the person smiles and their tender words melt away the singer's fears, and their laughter touches their heart. The singer then asks the person not to change because they are perfect just the way they are; their breathless charm is what the singer loves. The song ends with the singer admitting that they love the person just as much as the way they look tonight.
Overall, the song’s message is about the beauty of love and how it can overcome darkness and sadness. The way a loved one looks can bring comfort and warm the heart even during trying times.
