Personal life
Helene Fischer was born in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk, Russia (then the Soviet Union) as the second child to Peter and Maria Fischer. Her father worked as a physical education teacher and her mother as an engineer at a university. Her paternal grandparents were Volga Germans who had been deported to Siberia in 1941 by Joseph Stalin. In 1988, at the age of four, she emigrated with her parents and her six year older sister to Wöllstein, Rhineland-Palatine, West Germany.
After graduating from school, Helene Fischer attended the Frankfurt Stage & Musical School for three years, where she studied singing and acting. During this time, Helene performed on stage at the Staatstheater Darmstadt, as well as on the stage of the Volkstheater Frankfurt. Since May 2008 she has been dating Florian Silbereisen. In October 2011 Fischer was presented with her own wax figure in the Berlin Madame Tussauds museum.
Career
During her time at the Stage & Musical School, her mother secretly copied a demo CD with six of Fischer's songs and sent it to different recording studios to gauge the reaction of professionals.
Fischer's debut on stage took place on 14 May 2005, in a program of the TV channel ARD. It was a duet with the singer Florian Silbereisen. The two later became a couple.
She has won 17 "Echo" awards, the "Goldene Henne" award 7 times, 3 Bambi Awards, and the "Krone der Volksmusik" prize four times. All her albums and DVDs have achieved multiple gold and double platinum status. Her songs, with their stories of the everyday worries and woes of home-loving folks, are lyrically close to what could be called "country music" although musically quite different.
Her circle of fans extends beyond Germany into large part to Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, England, and Finland.
She released her first English album, "The English Ones", on 7 June 2010. The album was produced by Jean Frankfurter, a German producer, composer and arranger for 40 years. On singing in English, Fischer commented: "I have always dreamed of singing my songs in another language. English is the language of Country, the music that we call ’Schlager’. Language is a tool, but it is important that what you sing comes from the heart – and that is what this album is about."
In January 2013 she made her acting debut in an episode of the German TV series "Das Traumschiff".
On 4 October 2013 she released her album "Farbenspiel" in Germany, and confirmed a Tour in the year 2014. The album received platinum after 5 days in Germany, Denmark and Austria.
On 12 May 2017, she released her latest album Helene Fischer (2017). It sold over 300,000 copies in Germany in its first week of release, the biggest debut for a female in German history and the 2nd biggest overall. It is certified 5x Platinum in Germany.

Open Road
Helene Fischer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Midnight moon, just stay with me
Like a lighthouse in the sky
Let these eighteen wheels fly
Woke up this morning in a Motel Five
The day is dawning, I'm gonna drive
Through the night
Down that open road
He asked me where we stood
And I said, "Baby, this ain't no good"
You made the highway your home
And I'm just tired of livin' alone
So you go your way and I'll go mine
And maybe one day you'll find
What you're looking for
On the open road
Well, I've been down this road many times
And Lord, I've tried to find
Some peace of heart, some piece of mind
But this road just winds and winds
Down that open road
Down the open road
Down the open road
Down the open road
She don't break down, she don't run cold
She's my heart and soul, she's my pot of gold (down the open road)
She's the white lines when I'm driving blind
A hundred more miles and she's right on time
Right on time
Oh, right on time
Right on time
Right on time
The lyrics to "Open Road" by Helene Fischer depict a journey on the road, both physically and emotionally. The opening lines describe a picturesque scene of a black road lined with Georgia trees under a midnight moon. It sets the tone for the rest of the song, emphasizing a sense of longing and freedom.
The singer wakes up in a Motel Five, ready to hit the road and drive through the night. It implies a desire for escape and a search for something more than what they currently have. The open road symbolizes a path to new possibilities and opportunities. It suggests a yearning for change and adventure.
The chorus reveals a conversation between two people who are at a crossroads in their relationship. One person feels dissatisfied with the way things are and expresses their discontent, saying that their current situation is not good. It implies that their partner prioritizes the freedom and nomadic lifestyle that comes with the open road, while the other longs for stability and companionship. They decide to go their separate ways, hoping that they will each find what they are looking for, whether it's on the open road or elsewhere.
The lyrics continue to explore the singer's personal experiences with the open road. They have traversed this path multiple times, hoping to find peace of heart and peace of mind but have been unsuccessful. The road is described as winding, suggesting that the journey is not straightforward and that finding contentment is a challenging task. This could be a metaphor for the struggles and obstacles faced in life, emphasizing the theme of seeking fulfillment and struggling to find it.
The last verse takes a slightly different perspective. It introduces a female character who is described as the singer's heart and soul, their pot of gold. The "open road" here represents not only a physical journey but also a metaphorical journey of love and companionship. The singer sees this person as a guiding force, someone who provides clarity and direction in their life. The reference to "white lines when I'm driving blind" suggests that this person is a source of guidance and support, helping them navigate through uncertain times. The repetition of "right on time" emphasizes the importance and reliability of this person's presence in their life. It concludes the song on a hopeful note, suggesting that finding love and companionship can bring a sense of fulfillment and purpose to the open road of life.
