Hit The Ground
Hinder Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When the smoke clears
And the flashing lights and neon signs all disappear
It's like closing time and the sound of silence is all you hear
Cause everyone's gone

Trying to make sense
Maybe I got a little lost and got a little wreckless
Trying to piece it all together while I'm standing in the middle of the wreckage
It's all I'm left with

Burning both ends of the night just trying to find it
Anything I could to get me higher
But when that high starts running out
What goes up must come down
Falling feels like flying til you hit the ground

Got a choice to choose
I should learn to win cause I sure as hell know how to lose
I spent most of my life just caught inside a catch 22
Damned if I don't, damned if I do

Burning both ends of the night just trying to find it
Anything I could to get me higher
But when that high starts running out
What goes up must come down
Falling feels like flying til you hit the ground

Well I keep asking
Why I keep crashing

Burning both ends of the night just trying to find it
Anything I could to get me higher
But when that high starts running out
What goes up must come down
Falling feels like flying til you hit the ground

Falling feels like flying til you hit the ground
Falling feels like flying til you hit the ground

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Hinder's song Hit The Ground delve into themes of regret, self-destruction, and coming to terms with one's choices. The opening lines set the scene of a place emptied out, where the only sound is "the sound of silence." The use of this phrase is significant, as it evokes a sense of loneliness and introspection that is present throughout the rest of the song. The next lines describe the singer's attempt to make sense of their situation, as they stand in the midst of destruction, trying to "piece it all together." The lines "Burning both ends of the night just trying to find it / Anything I could to get me higher" suggest that the singer has been making destructive choices in order to seek some kind of fulfillment, but that these attempts have ultimately failed. The repeated phrase "falling feels like flying til you hit the ground" drives home the idea that even though the singer may have experienced highs in their pursuit of something more, it has all come crashing down in the end.

The second verse continues in a similar vein, with the singer reflecting on the choices they have made and their tendency towards self-sabotage. The line "I spent most of my life just caught inside a catch 22" suggests that the singer has felt stuck and unable to break out of destructive patterns. The repeated refrain of "Burning both ends of the night just trying to find it" reinforces the idea that the singer has been trying to find something, but has not been successful. The final lines of the song, "Well I keep asking / Why I keep crashing," suggest that the singer is still struggling to understand why they make the choices they do and continue to mess things up for themselves.

Overall, the lyrics to Hit The Ground paint a picture of someone who is struggling with the consequences of their choices and looking for a way to understand and move past them. The repeated theme of falling and hitting the ground emphasizes the pain and difficulty of this process, as well as the sense of introspection and self-examination that it requires.

I saw these guys yesterday in Knoxville and they are awesome. They did a lunch acoustic before the show for a small crowd. They made sure everyone got an autographed shirt, shook hands and took pictures before they started the show and thanked everyone several times before they left. Great group of guys. This is a great song too. I don't really like live music but they killed it. Definitely worth going to see them.

@ythinder

The moment I heard that Austin was leaving the band I was so disappointed as I knew they would never find another rock singer/frontman like him!! I will treasure my Hinder albums but won't be buying this one, the music has lost its edge and it just shows you how great Austin really was!!!
