Alongside Attwenger he is considered as one of the most influential heads of the "Neue Volksmusik" (lit. "New Folklore Music") movement.
He became famous as Hubert von Goisern und die Alpinkatzen.

HvG produced two world music CD with musicians from Tibet and Africa.
In 2000 he made his comeback with a new band and the album "foen".
The studio album "iwasig" was recorded after the tour and released 2002.
A personal project first, but due to the big success of the first "Trad" CD,
soon "Trad II" followed. Both feature original austrian folk songs.
The latest and biggest project is the "Linz Europe Tour 2007-2009".
Travelling on an adapted cargoship, fully equipped with a stage,
the journey went east first and then will head west.

The song "Goaßbeitl-Bauernbuam" by Hubert Von Goisern is a fun and lively tune with an interesting combination of words. The lyrics are written in a dialect that is native to the Austrian people and may be difficult to understand for those unfamiliar with it. The song tells the story of a goat farmer, a "Goaßbeitl-Bauernbuam" who cannot tolerate certain foods such as "a griasknedl und a leberknedl". He suffers a reaction to these foods and ends up hitting his head on the stovetop in frustration.
The rest of the lyrics describe various scenes, situations and objects that are nonsensical and entertaining. They include a dance floor, a rooster with a high pitched voice, various types of berries, a hip-hop chicken, a hole in the road, a swarm of birds, a thick wooden box and a farmer's dire financial situation. The song ends with a "jodler", a traditional yodeling phrase. The lyrics may not make logical sense but they evoke a playful and light-hearted mood that is characteristic of Austrian folk music.
