Irakere, perhaps the most recognized modern Cuban ensemble, burst onto the international scene as the first post-revolutionary band - still residing in Cuba then - to be released on a major US record label. Essentially an assembly of Cuba's greatest young jazz musicians, the band evolved out of the conservatory system to become one of the most innovative ensembles in Cuban history. Their blend of Afro-Cuban tradition with jazz fusion proved ground-breaking and illuminated the richness and complexity of the country's music.

Beware my foolish heart
How white the ever constant moon
Take care my foolish heart
There's a line between love and fascination
That's hard to see, how many names such as this
For they both have the very same sensation
Her lips are much too close to mine
Beware my foolish heart
But should our eager lips combine
Then let the fire start
For this time it isn't fascination
Or a dream that will fade and fall apart
It's love, this time it's love
My foolish heart
The lyrics of Irakere's song, "Romance," describe the conflict between love and fear. The night is compared to a lovely tune, but the singer warns his foolish heart to be careful. The moon is white and constant, yet the singer urges himself to beware his own foolish heart. The line between love and fascination is difficult to see, and even more so when there are many names for the same sensation. When a person is locked in the magic of a kiss, it can be hard to know which it is that they feel.
However, the singer acknowledges that the feeling could be love, as his lips are too close to hers, but he still warns himself to beware of his foolish heart. But then, if their eager lips do combine, he urges the fire to start, indicating that he is willing to take the risk. The lyrics suggest that the singer is torn between love and fear, or fascination, but as the song progresses, it becomes clear he longs to feel true, pure love.
Overall, the song's message is a warning to be cautious about the heart's desires, while at the same time encouraging the listener to embrace love despite its risks.

Una pieza muy muy tocada y muy muy famosa que por esto no pierde su encanto... Y en esta versión jazzificada toma un son más picudo. Te di un likazo, me gustó.. Alfredo.
