I did have fun with this game, and I don't mind grinding so much.. You can have a lot of fun with a ball and a paddle, but it is only how you look at it.. Different strokes for different folks..
The key to cut down the grind is to journey alone as you will gain exp. faster, otherwise you end up splitting the exp with your partner.. Also you need to mind your character strengths and weaknesses..
Tips-
1. You may need to farm monsters for stat boosting seeds, some monsters carry seeds with them that boost your stats, you will have to hunt for them though.. Pay attention to what each monster drops, every monster drops an item..
2. don't fight apprentices early, unless you absolutely have to, in fact, don't even talk to them.. If they join you they make the game much more grindy, then it otherwise has to be.. You could end up starting a rivalry, which you don't want, especially early on..
3. back up your money with jewels,
4. If you have to fight an apprentice save the game before hand..
5. USE the Runes, and see what their affects are.. You have unlimited uses of the Runes, they can help you in a boss fight or an apprentice duel..
6.the reason for not triggering the rivalry early is that your rivals gain bonus, rivalry points, with each level up, once a rivalry starts.. If you delay at starting the rivalry they get fewer rivalry stat points overall..
7. Once they become rivals with you, they will always fight you when you talk with them, also if you obtain runes, they may start the rivalry themselves.. Just don't talk to them..
8.There is one instance when a hostile rival may join you, and that is regarding the sky rune that rival will offer to join you.. Once someone joins you, your game gets alot more grindy..
9. Rivalry points are based upon the number of levels they were rivals with you, for instance, if you were rivals with a character for 20 levels, then at their next level up they will get 20 extra points, if you are rivals for 30 then they get 30 to their stats and it will continue climbing per a level until level 80.. .. That means if they were rivals with you for 50 levels they will get 50 points on their next level up.. It is possible that if you started your rivalry early enough, they could have 200 to 300 stat points more than you, no joke, not fun.. So the later, the rivalry starts the better off you will be..
10. you might want to try save summing between levels, to get a different stat load out per a level to help deal with gaps in your characters stats it may not seem like much, but every little bit can help..

Fat Chocobo
imagine if they went with the mode 7 stuff and modeled the overworld like that. it would be easily the most awesome game on the snes. but no, it's just a generic rpg

Nice review! Didn't know anything about this game until now but man some of these bosses have awesome designs. And I'm gonna guess the Inn is Building #5.

I personally don't mind grinding in RPGs, I find it quite rewarding and the repetition is kind of therapeutic lol.
Anyway I'm loving your content, just binge watched all your RPG reviews. Can't wait for the next one!!

The thing that drove me mad is I how I can spend so many hours grinding and still not have enough money for some of the best gear near the end. Also in the defeated 7th saga crew.
From what I’ve heard of Paladins Quest your enjoyment will largely depend on how well you comprehend leveling your magic skills

Yeah I didn't buy any gear on the last continent either, died too often to save that kind of gold

The answer is yes... I do love video games. But I still DESPISE level grinding 🙃
Nightshine Thieves
Loved the part where you showed the pic of you beating it on a CRT!
Gotta hate level grinding though... Really good review!
Seriously Persona
