some days you don't look at me at all
think we could weather this storm
together won't be so hard if we fall
So come to me with your hands open
trust in me I will be your chance
there's always time enough for bleeding
no time to dance would you give me,
my love a time to dance
This old world is weighin down on you
your eyes barely leave the floor
rest your head upon my shoulder
there's a meanness going on out there
and you don't need anymore
The lyrics to John Wesley's song A Time to Dance delve into the complexities of a relationship that is strained and struggling to hold on. The opening lines, "We don't look at things the same way, some days you don't look at me at all", set the tone for a relationship that is facing difficulties. The singer acknowledges that there are differences between them and that there are days when their partner seems distant and uninterested.
Despite these challenges, the singer expresses the hope that they can weather the storm together. They offer their support and reassurance, saying "together won't be so hard if we fall". The chorus then comes in, emphasizing the need for the couple to take some time to themselves and simply dance. This is represented as a moment of release and connection that they both need. However, there seems to be a constant pressure on their time, preventing them from being able to do so.
The final verse of the song reflects on the pressures and difficulties of the wider world. The singer acknowledges that the world is heavy and that the problems out there can easily become internalized. They offer comfort and support to their partner, saying that there's no need for them to face it alone.
Overall, the lyrics of A Time to Dance offer a message of hope and togetherness in the face of hardship. It acknowledges that relationships are complex and that there will be difficult moments, but emphasizes the importance of finding ways to connect and support each other.
