Come and Gone
John Wesley Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
we dodge, we deny
we turn from the gun and try
To live...to learn
yet we injure the loves
that we don't recognize
I look...to my home
and remember the touch
Of you...who I loved
who I wronged
who have come and gone
you have come and gone
though these dreams
do fail
to yield us the promise made
Yield us the promise gave
We reel...in the wake
in the shock of the madness
the all consuming sadness
You bring...to me
the body we created
cut by words that were
bladed
we bleed... and move on
with scars too slow to heal
a memory too numb to
feel
you have come and gone
Though we run from the
coming of the light
and we hide in the shadows of our own lives
always searching for those
who have gone
those who have come and gone
We feel safe in the
cover of the night
we bury the hope
that's in our own lives
living crushed by lovers
who've gone
you have come and gone
you fade...from my sight
from my heart you will bleed away
then I will turn away
of you...who I've loved
who I've wronged
who have come and gone
John Wesley's "Come and Gone" is a melancholic song that talks about the human tendency to push away things that may hurt us, thereby injuring the people we love unintentionally. The song is full of introspective lines that lament on what has gone wrong in life. The singer suggests that we hide, run, dodge, and deny things that may harm us but in the process, forget to recognize the love we have around us. The lyrics portray the loss and absence of loved ones who have come and gone, leaving behind memories that are too slow to heal and too numb to feel. Even though the dreams may fail to fulfill the promises made, the singer suggests that we need to move on with the scars and seek refuge in the cover of the night.
The song's vivid imagery highlights the universal human feeling of pain and the need to hold on to the memories of loved ones gone by. The singer sees a comb or a brush at home and remembers the touch of the person they loved, highlighting the importance of the little things in life that bring back precious memories. The song also talks about the shock of madness and the all-consuming sadness that we feel when we lose our loved ones. Despite the loss, we strive to move on, even though it may take time to heal.

living crushed by lovers who've gone
When we do lose sight of this hope, we may become trapped in the past, unable to move forward and live fully in the present because of the hurt and pain we continue to carry with us from those we've lost.
you fade...from my sight
As time passes and we continue to grow and change, the memories of those we've lost may begin to fade and lose their sharpness and intensity.
from my heart you will bleed away
This fading, however, can also bring with it a sense of sadness and loss, as we begin to recognize the extent of what we've lost and the ways in which we've been shaped by these experiences.
then I will turn away
Despite these moments of sadness and loss, however, we are able to find a way to move on and continue living in the present, letting go of the past and embracing the new opportunities that come our way.
of you...who I've loved
Though the memories of those who have come and gone may continue to influence our lives, we are able to find a way to love and cherish them from a distance, recognizing the ways in which they have shaped us and learning to move forward with new hope and optimism.
who I've wronged
In doing so, we also recognize the ways in which we may have been responsible for the hurt and pain we've experienced, taking responsibility for our own mistakes and learning to live with greater honesty and integrity in the future.
who have come and gone
Ultimately, the memories of those who have come and gone serve as a poignant reminder of the brevity and preciousness of life, encouraging us to live each day to the fullest and to cherish the people and experiences that bring us joy and love.

This was a very inspiring and well made video. It is a blessing to learn about Christian history, which is so important, yet neglected. May we pray that God will turn the nations back to him so that many will come unto Him through the Gospel.
